I was getting a refund on some 8 buckle, white leather, thigh high stillettos at the Lucky Afro. A little Chinese store that caters to afros/ chemo patients/ quincenieras/ and hip hop apparrel.....and kinky boots. About half a dozen people where in there kind of singing along with "Lean on me" when a stubby little black woman next to me gasped at some purple rubber eskimo boots with purple fur. "Oh lord! Those are on sale? I LOVE purple!"

I told her to get em cause ya only live once. She was trying furiously to jamb her foot into it and the zipper stopped halfway up her calf. She stopped and looked up at me and I began yelling at her like a drill sargeant..."SUCK IT IN TROOPER! YOU CAN DO IT! THOSE BOOTS BELONG TO YOU! I GOT $10 THAT SAYS YOU CAN DO IT!"

The other people in the store gathered around smiling and laughing. Zzzzzzzip....she got the boot on and in that moment the look on her face was priceless. She felt beautiful. She was a diva. She smiled so big when she looked up at me. "Feels sexy don't it?"...I handed her a $10. "I knew those boots needed to be yours" (only cost her $5).

She was all smiles saying "I gots some purple shorts to match these!".......eeewww

But, it made her really happy.

It occurred to me that sometimes just a simple bit of encouragement can really make someones day.

So, if you get the chance to yell at a stranger, just do it. Could make them really happy.

Everyone in the afro was grinning ear to ear when she strutted up to the register in those gawdawful monstrosities.....I think it made all of us a bit happier to see someone smile like that.
