Topic: Too much money | |

“I want to be clear, we’re not trying to push financial reform because we begrudge success that’s fairly earned. I mean, I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money. But part of the American way is you can just keep on making it if you’re providing a good product or you’re providing a good service. We don’t want people to stop fulfilling the core responsibilities of the financial system to help grow the economy.”
--President Obama who decides how much is too much? Obama made $5 million last year. Is that too much? |

I think that for people like me who are trying to survive with making 1% of that amount, it might seem excessive but then if I was making that much I'm sure my attitude would be different.

So at some pont you've made enough laws/regulation and you need to sit back and revel
in the controls you have forced on a 'free people'. They freedom isn't free and someone is always paying for it, if not the rich(and good for them going out and using their brains to make more money- land of opportunity)who will pay for all the 'free handouts' of the socialism programs being rammed up the backsides of ALL tax paying citizens- 47% of all Americans pay zero in federal income taxes. Screw it tax them too!! Let the freeloaders fill what its like to have their money extorted from them like the rest of us. I'm permitted to keep about 60 cents for every dollar I've earned- straight robbery. And how about we used the Obamessiahs own words and apply it to the 'government' at a certain point I think you've stole enough money. Doc |

Maybe it's the magic 250,000 amount.
I got an idea. Every cent someone makes over 250,000 they should givethe rest to those of us who don't. Heck I could use an extra 180,000 a year. |

The OP's quote doesnt suggest OBama is trying to stop people from making money ,, in fact he says just the opposite. Much like he personally opposes abortion but doesnt want to enforce or create abortion laws,,,,, he is just stating his personal opinion and then his professional one,,,
as to what he made,, I think its not too much considering much of it was residual from the re interest in his books and considering his contributions "In addition to paying $1.8 million in federal taxes, the Obamas donated $329,100 to charity plus the full amount of the $1.4 million he won for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009." Also considering the average ivy league tuition is right now at 45000 per year(no telling what it will be when Sasha and Melia are grown), that means he could need 360,000 if they go for four years, and 720,000 if they go for eight. Hopefully he invested and saved quite a bit of last years income because it isnt his NORMAL yearly income. I was impressed with a system my mom explained to me when she was traveling to (Amsterdam?) where after a certain amount of income each person is required to HIRE another to do something(anything) and once that person reaches a cap,,they must hire someone and so on. This way,, people can earn as much as they wish while still having some civic duty to give back in some way. I think thata a kind of awesome idea, but I doubt most AMericans would be happy with it. |
