How can you tell when your older if you are pregnant or starting menopause? I have a friend who is 47 years old...She wonders if she could be pregnant because she missed her period...But its the first one the was not regular. Can anyone give sound advice? Now I am laughing as I post this because this post is NOT about me!

And yes she will see a Doctor soon! Thanks people...

First off, a pregnancy test. She's a tiny bit overdue to start. I was 45 when it started. And man does it mess with your hormones. I was so friggen horney during my last three periods. Now, I don't much care anymore. Anyhow, I'm sure she is. BTW the hot flash's were a super PITA.

For quite awhile, every time I thought I was done, I'd get it again. It fazes out eventually. Same with the hot flash's. They are great to have in the winter though! They really warm ya up when you're cold. lol

The absolute worst part for me was, just before I fell asleep, I would get what felt like a panic attack. It felt like I was going to die. I AM NOT KIDDING. It was terrifying. All I could do was wait it out. Strange, that's the only time it would happen. Although, even during the day, many times I felt close to that happening. It's really scary.

She needs to see her Dr. ASAP and get it figured out.

She may "think I am a bit irritable" but the people around her may have a different take on it.

Yes, some women do get a bit frisky during this hormonal change, remember it's not a crime to do hormone replacement therapy.

I started at 37-38. Got to where I had 2-3 periods a year & they were more spotting than anything. Those were the worst because the lighter the period the worse I had migraines. So, I went on Depo a year ago to stop the periods all together. Plus I don't want an unplanned pregnancy. I'm pretty much done & never had the hotflashes, etc that comes with it & never been on hormones. Dr figures another year & I'll be completely through it.

A trip to the Gyne M.D. could be of more help than she realizes. If it is menopause, there are blood tests that will tell her if she is still capable of becoming pregnant. It may no longer be a concern for her. Gotta tell you, that was a 'freeing' moment for me. To no longer have to be concerned about an unplanned pregnancy was small relief for me as it came at the end of my marriage. In an exclusive, monogamous relationship, that relief would be a pleasure!

"Depo" is an injection of hormones.

Well, yeah you're right. Just really didn't need hormones because of symptoms of menopause. Migraines were natural for me during periods. Plus, you're a man...now scoot!!!rofl

Can't offer any help since mine was all surgically removed. I didn't get any hot flashes until more than a year afterward and fortunately that seems to be the only side effect I have suffered. I am on HRT via a patch because I couldn't take the hot flashes! But it sure sounds like the age and not pregnancy. She obviously needs to get to the doctor to find out for sure!
