Okay folks. If someone accidentally calls you as a wrong number how do you respond?

I was trying to call a person today and had the number wrong. I apologized profusely, and the female cut loose b#tching that I'd better make sure the person who gave me the number didn't do THAT again. Sheesh. It was a simple accident. How hard is it to say "Sorry, there's no one here by that name, you must have the wrong number".

The only time I ever got snippy was when the phone was pranked 3 times in a row. I was nice the first two times, but the third time I answered as Bush's Little Whorehouse, which choked them up. Then I cut loose.

I never answer when an unknown number calls me, so I don't worry about it.

I try to be polite about it, I have dialed wrong myself and have apologized for disturbing their night. I just let them know they have the wrong number, if they call back, I say "nope...their still not here" and I laugh. A third time gets a nastier answer.

If I don't know the number I don't answer

I respond like a raving lunatic, of course.

I never answer any # or name I don't know!!

If I don't know the number, I don't answer. If I get private call or blocked call...I still don't answer. If I don't know someone, I won't have to talk to them.
Now if someone calls me really late at night and I accidently pick up, I usually say...do I sound like _____? If they say no, then I say well then this is not that person huh...then I hang up!!!

whenever I receive a wrong number call it goes something like this

"Is Betty there?"

"OH! Thank God you called. Betty got her hand caught in the garbage disposal. My God~! There's blood everywhere!. Quick call 911!"

and then I hang up

I will Always be cool,,in answering,,but as you,,if its a nut case who repeats it and askes the same thing,,,wink,,they come to NOT WANT TO CALL ME AGAIN,,lol

I once had to use a pager for my work,,well it seemed the OLD USER,,was a drug dealer,,,OMG,,,did I call some ******up people to ask,,,YEA??? and then it went BAD,,,fast,,,,

Wow, I just answer the ph. If its a wrong number...I am polite.

Since I can make a mistake 'dialing' the number I'll call it again and confirm what number I called.

What if nobody answered the ph. if they didn't recognize the number?

That's a lot of extra calls being made, leaving messg.'s etc.

Hummmm I'm one of those that if I don't know the number a lot of times I will not answer it. But when I do I just laugh it off and tell them no problem and go on. Nothing to get riled over for sure...

Got Caller ID activated ... ? If you don't recognize it, don't answer it ...

I politely tell them they must have the wrong number. If I'm the one calling I apologize & thank them then hang up.

But... but.... but.... what if Publishers Clearing House is trying to call....

ok, i'm weird. I sometimes get into conversations with people.
Elderly lady: you have the wrong #
me: Oh, I was calling someone about their kitten
EL: thats alright. What kind of cat?
Me: blah, blah, blah.
Then we end up talking for ten minutes. It's a hoot, talking to strangers, happens every now and then.

I've called wrong # and hang up by 5 rings. Later the phone rings and it's some women or man! "whose this" Whose this", I dialed a wrong Number- one even told me he was checking on his wife, one woman didn't quite beleive me, told her my age then she did. strange world out there.

I don't block my calls. Nothing to hide. I don't pick up 1-800 numbers or blocked calls, as they're usually bill collectors.

But if it's an unknown number, I just respond politely unless they get rude first. That one always makes me laugh. My number, that I've had for 8 years, and some people actually dare ask me how I go it. Shakes head.

Normally it doesn't phase me, but I'm just amazed at how hard a polite response it.
