To an extent. If used properly it is susposed to make things more equal, but IMO it has failed.

Just in case you don't know the term affirmative action refers to policies that take race, ethnicity, physical disabilities, military career, sex, or a person's parents' social class into consideration in an attempt to promote equal opportunity or increase ethnicity or other forms of diversity. The focus of such policies ranges from employment and education to public contracting and health programs. The impetus towards affirmative action is twofold: to maximize diversity in all levels of society, along with its presumed benefits, and to redress perceived disadvantages due to overt, institutional, or involuntary discrimination.bigsmile

it works by the letter of the law, but not by the spirit of the law, so long as people continue to not date outside their race...once people start f*kn others, then we will all be each others race...then no need for affirmative action..

I think its a racist piece of legislation.

I don't feel I've been affected by it. Where I work they have to have an affirmative action policy, because we do a lot of government contracting, but I've never heard of it being a problem or anything.

I'm not sure what to think about it...I just thought the person most qualified for the job should get the job...race, ethnicity, physical disabilities, military career, sex be damnedwhat

I agree with that

I think it started out with good motives, but has been taken advantage of by some.

Didn't it get its start in our schools working hand and hand with desegregation, as to their reasoning to bus kids into other schools

IMO to some extent it's still needed but not a warped version. Racism and sexism are still alive (probably not as bad as a while back)

Well, being that AA is implemented 90 percent of the time when there is actual PROOF of discrimination, and being that discrimination, sexism, and racism still exist, Id say that it is needed.

I don't thinks it's needed until someone thinks it's needed, then I'm glad to see it work. I think it's still needed. There's always ppl who will take advantage of a well intended program... that says more about them then it does the program.
I was once hired into a corporation based on my race because the powers that be had previously "over-hired" persons of other races an ppl started to complain. Incredibly messy scenario, a lot of hurt feelings all around... but at the workerbee level, we all got along fine and were happy to have good jobs. It's a wonky world.
