90# on your telephone

I dialed '0', to check this out, asked the operator, who confirmed that this was correct
so please pass it on . . . (l also checked out Snopes.com. This is true, and also applies to cell phones!)

PASS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW

I received a telephone call last evening from an individual identifying himself as an AT&T Service Technician (could also be Telus) who was conducting a test on the telephone lines. He stated that to complete the test I should touch nine(9), zero(0), the pound sign (#), and then hang up. Luckily, I was suspicious and refused.
Upon contacting the telephone company, I was informed that by pushing 90#, you give the requesting individual full access to your telephone line, which enables them to place long distance calls billed to your home phone number.

I was further informed that this scam has been originating from many local jails/prisons DO NOT press 90# for ANYONE.

The GTE Security Department requested that I share this information with EVERYONE I KNOW.

After checking with Verizon they also said it was true, so do not dial 90# for anyone !!!!! PLEASE HIT THAT FORWARD BUTTON AND PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!!

(my dad sent me this info) which is good to know)

Why is it a bad thing for inmates to be able to save money when they make a call? I agree the OP is a criminal act and a scam. But, the website you posted looks legitimate and legal.

With cell phones too, or just land lines?

This scam doesn't apply to individuals or cell phone's.

read below

The original scam warned about in the original message only applies in the United States, and only to organizations with particular types of PABX that have been configured in a particular way. The essence of the original scam was the ability of these PABXes to connect two outside lines together, using call forwarding. This is why the Recall button is involved. The sequence R90# places the original call on hold (R), makes a new call to an outside line (9), dials the operator (0), and then connects the original call to the new call (#). The PABX thus needs to have been configured to allow an outside call to be forwarded to an outside line, which most PABXes do not allow, for obvious reasons.

So if you are an officer worker it is important to know....other than that don't worry about it.

Technology can be used for good or bad. If I use a private investigator or legal spyware to prove that my children are being abused to protect them (this didn't happen...it's just an example) then the technology has been used for good. If I use the same technology to scam someone out of their money or commit another crime then the technology has been used for bad. There's nothing wrong with having the technology or advertising it. It's what you do with it. Just like a gun.

my point was not the illegality, but the what were the odds factor
as in,lets save the inmates money whilst they fleece us of ours.

however,if you read my next post,it clearly looks to be illegal to me,aka, the cell phone spying thingy.

okay,i have to edit this because your post showed after i posted this.
while i can see your point,in reality, how many people of nefarious nature, will use this, compared to regular non criminal types.

its bad enough the govt spys on everything we do,now anyone can spy on your cell phone, without you even knowing it.
isnt that an invasion of your privacy?
what little there is left,lol.

i do agree with you about the gun comparison as well.

The cell phone spying has nothing to do with inmates saving money on their phone calls. And, "we" are not saving the inmates anything. It's just a regular commercial business.
