I have a friend, a guy, and he has been in Iraq for the past year. He gets a call on his birthday (October) and his wife tells hime she just slept with his best friend AND she has blown through about $45,000 of his hard earned money. He divorced her (December) and came back to the states. He is po'd, talking about doing a tour in Afghanistan and recouping his losses. After a long talk, he decides to take a job in the same state he is from and work on "himself, his relationship with his children and his home", which she left trashed. I get a call from him tonight (February) and guess what - he has met the (new) love of his life and he is so happy. Ok - W.T.F.??? What happened to taking some time off and getting your life together?
I have another friend, a guy, who is not yet divorced, owns a fantastic business, has 2 beautiful children, and decides that sleeping at home alone in an empty apartment sucks so he does the first pretty woman he can find and gues what? Yep, she's pregnant. Now he is calling and singing the blues because he feels trapped. Again...W.T.F.??? What happened to taking some time off and getting your life together? I am at a loss that people are so quick to find "the one", no, not "that one" but the "other one" instead of just taking a deep breath, focusing on themselves and figuring out what they want to do with their lives. When does a pretty face and good lay take precidence over ones own children, ones own piece of mind, ones own freedom??? Sorry for venting guys...Just frustrated. |

Possible shock of and fear of loneliness after tours of duty in Iraq?
This is just who he is ? It's a guessing game really, and his case is quite mild, compared to others, so no offense, but "insanity" maybe a bit exaggerating in this case. I try not to be negative, but everyone is his or her own master, it's not worth to ponder about others' life, even if they are unable to make sound decisions, it's nobody's fault if he messes up but his own. |

You have mad a good point, actually several. Thank you for sharing this with me. |

Not really surprising, really, as many people can't hack being alone for any length of time. That, and there's an almost constant drumbeat of peer pressure to 'get back on the horse'-- you see it all the time on these forums from the Dr. Phil types jumping bad on people who choose to remember the past and go it solo. -Kerry O. |

We're in an age of instant gratification. We do almost anything we want, the moment we want it. The problem is good relationships don't work that way. Sometimes I think this consumer culture here in America is going to doom us all.

They are looking for a quick fix to their problems, because they are hurting, not realizing that they are making the problem worse.
And they are learning, or will learn the hard way. |
