Has anyone done this? Did it work? Was it worth it?

My brother had it done a few years ago here in Fort Worth just make sure they are well known and good at it. He said it is very much worth it and would do it again no longer has to wear glasses and he has to read blueprints all the time. The day he had it done he could tell the difference..

I'm gonna take a look at the doctors up in the DFW area. I think they also do payment plans which would work.

I'm really sick of glasses and contacts. Argh!

Ohhh did not realize you were in Texas lmao Hey called my brother to find out who he used he said he used Dr. Booth in Plano but... his wife just had it done and used the Lasik Eye Surgery Clinic in the Fort Worth Area and it was just as good. And a little cheaper he said.

I do know that Dr Booth in the area has great reviews....

it's not for everyone. and just like with anything, its great for some, vision gets to be 20/20, some regress and need spex again, some have had real horror stories. choose your place wiseley, not based on price point. you will find out that if you wear contacts you will have to stop wearing them for some time to give your eyes a break. your cornea has to be certain thickness in order to be a good candidate.

The Clinics I referred will not just do the surgery one must come in first to see if your a candidate to have such surgery done. It is and out of pocket surgery since most insurance does not see it as something that has to be done.

But yes make sure that the one doing the surgery has a good track record since it is your eyes they are dealing with.

yeah, you should always have a consultation not just to talk to the dr, but so they can check the cornea etc

I had mono-vision Lasik in January of 2008 and it CHANGED MY LIFE in an incredible way! SUCH a great decision! I recommend it to anyone who's a legitimate candidate!

I started with one eye for distance and one for close, but lost my mid-range and that made PC work and doing things like reading the labels of products on the grocery store shelf difficult. I went back for the enhancement for that eye to a mid-range correction. The trade off is that now for close work, sewing, or reading in bad light/when my eyes are tired/certain fonts, I have to wear "cheaters." But they are inexpensive and come in lots of cool styles and colors - I leave them all over my world to use when necessary.

I would recommend Lasik HIGHLY but would also suggest that you don't cut corners and go price-shopping. Go to a Lasik Dr. who has a great reputation, the latest equipment, etc. Ask the hard questions - how many enhancements? Incidents of infection? How many people do they turn away as poor candidates?

Remember they ARE your eyes and you only get one pair!

I had it done in 1997 right after it was approved in this country. I had horrible eye sight that changed yearly and couldn't find my glasses or contacts if I took them out at night. I didn't even get it done hoping not to have to still wear contacts. I couldn't read the E on the eye chart.

It was the best money I ever spent. I did end up with 20/20 vision. It is important to focus clearly on the light as they laser to get the best results. The metal they put in your eye to keep it open is slightly uncomfortable but they give you numbing eyedrops. They do one eye at a time. You should have a week or two in between. You will not be able to wear eye make-up for a week or so. I could see clearly the next day and my eye was not red at all. You need to be careful as you sleep for the first week and then nothing. I had a plastic shield I would put on at night for the first few days.

Just this year my eyesight has changed, but that is due to the fact that I am getting older. It was 25/20 in one eye and 30/20 in the other. Still pretty good results for over 13 years ago. I have saved so much money on not having to buy contacts and glasses every year and if you have allergies it's so much better to just be able to see and not put contacts in when your eyes are irritated.

Pick a great doctor and don't base it on price. I definately recommend it.

I've been paying attention to both of them on TV and was having a hard time with the decisions.

If anyone in my family gets it done (parents, siblings, aunts, uncles) and it goes successfully, then I'll have it done, but not until then.

The last time I was at the eye docs, he said I'd be a good candidate as my eyes had finally quit changing so much. That was 4 years ago. For a while, though, I was changing every 4 months, had an astigmatism, and the optic nerve was kinked. That apparently cleared up. He said the astigmatism shouldn't be a problem, though I would definitely have to talk to the docs who do the lasik.

I figure that it can't hurt to have them take a look and let me know.

I've thought about it. But I have heard so many differing things about my eyes that I really have no idea WHAT to do....lol

The cornea on my left eye is flat rather than being rounded. So, even though a couple of doctors have said that lasik would work ( but only after 3 to 5 times ) I am leaning more toward the most recent opinion I got which is cornea replacement.

But...the risk involved with getting a cornea replaced ( my brain just shutting the eye down because it hasn't worked correctly since birth and might not be able to deal with clear vision in that eye after 40 years ) kinda makes me think I am just gonne stick with my glasses...lol

I know the feeling. But for me, it really can't get any worse. I think I'd prefer total blindness over being totally screwed if I lost or damaged the glasses or contacts. I can't see anything clearly beyond 2 inches, and everything is a blurry image. It royally sucks.

You have to realy look into this.I did, and have heard good stories and bad.It is not a fix all like people sometimes think. If it goes wrong? there will be so much scaring that glasses or contacts will not bean option. Alot of people are turning away from it due to the scaring it causes.
