I absolutely miss this guy. When he died in the helicopter crash, I felt like I had lost a member of my family. I saw him & DT in '89 & it's still favorite concert memories.
Here's his cover of "Lil Wing". I think it's one of his best pieces ever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdYRzH10L2M |

It was a major loss to music fans...we're lucky Clapton wasn't on that flight, they had just finished up Sweet Home Chicago with them jamming together. Boothill, powerful song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ph2wtjwXZY8 |

... I did lose a family member that day, dear friend of mine!
... RIP, Stevie boy ... ... Miss you so ... I can say that he was finally happy w/ his life at the time he translated! Maybe that is the best time to leave, uh? He had some VERY hard, deeply troubled years 'before'. I love so many of his songs, best ones were on the porch ... Here's my fav the last couple of years, think because it reminds me of the peace he held in his last years ... 'sounds like true peace' ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Um1lA9m4wL0&feature=related |

BAD ASSED SONG YO! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgKVvypJc5s Ha ... good one, and will do! Here's a great story ... Townes Van Zandt was another bud, and he was mentored by Lightnin' Hopkins from a young, tender age. Well, Lightnin' lived out his life in a ghetto, row, shotgun house in Houston, FAR from the big time you'd have hoped. When he died, a friend in our circle w/ a print shop, printed out a zillion: 'LIGHTNIN' HOPKINS BOULEVARD' signs !!! We went at dark and covered every street sign that had said 'Gray St.' (The big side street that Lightnin's house was on the corner of) w/ the new signs ... ... Didn't last long, still we were so proud! Gettin' the city to really do it sounds so much brighter! Doh! Guess we were too young and stoned ... |
