Topic: The American way... | |
---|---|
Apparently is far more depressing than it is engrossing, I know people that have college degrees in different areas of education that are currently unemployed. Personally, I'm stuck in the middle of nothing and selling Slurpee's my entire life when I have experience in sales and know an awful lot about computers. Yet here I am, unemployed and applying for jobs that want nothing to do with me...why? Probably because of my credit, apparently sticking out two years at a dead-end job is not dedication enough if these silly, stupid numbers are too low.
I've honestly come to the conclusion that if, given the chance, I could go back into selling what I did sale which was illegal, I would jump at the chance...because at least then I would be making money, a lot of money, and I would not be spiraling downward with my happiness. That is the American way, isn't it? Happiness, money, security? I'm constantly reminded of the exact reason I absolutely despise this country and all that it stands for, money, happiness, and security. All of these things, meshed into one big ball of clay and slammed into a wall, what did you get? Even if I persay went to college, what is waiting for me after? The same thing that befalls other college graduates? Well, hell, I'm unemployed right now without having to put forth a damn bit of drudgery. I have to say, the illegal way of life, it is becoming more tempting everyday I wake up. Happiness, money, and security all rolled up into one sufficent ball that is easy and I don't have to slam it against a wall to see what I get when it "splats!". This is the American way, poverty, loneliness, insecurity. This is the creation of which the greed, lust, and envy has created for us. From years past to years in the future, this simple little fact, it will not change. You possibly will be more adept to conforming and moving with it, but it will not change. All of this makes me think back to when everyone wanted to migrate from their homeland to the United States, had they seen the future of this country, would they have made the same decision? Moving from poverty into an unknown poverty is a hell of life, don't you think? ---Please don't move this into politics, it is more of a rant than anything and I'd rather not get into some meager meaningless argument with someone over my views and opinions...I get that enough in the politics forum. |

A college degree can serve you well if you major in the right thing. If I had finished my teaching certificate, I'd have a job. If I had gotten my graduate degree in something like healthcare or business or mental health, I'd have a job. It just depends on what you major in. When I was young, I thought if I got a degree in anything, it would guarantee me a good job, and I think that was true, for a while, but now it's changed, and if you're not what companies are looking for, specifically, you get passed over.
On the other hand, you can make a lot of money as a plumber, electrician, mechanic, et. so it just depends on what you want to do in life. |

Look at Illinois though, people getting degrees in guaranteed markets. Business, teaching, health, etc. and they are graduating college with no future or possible future. They are not offered jobs, they are not guaranteed anything aside from a nice looking degree to place on a wall. Really, college is going down anymore, people are probably better off pursuing something they don't really want to do instead of what their passion is. Happiness is taken out of the equation in order for money and security, with happiness out of the equation how can one even think they will ever be better than they already are? This country created a brick wall with education standards, then they went and made the brick wall even bigger with financial stipulations, to go a step even further they barbed it off giving a false security. At some point, every great civilization, collapses...we may just be seeing the initial point of that right now. |

Oh I know, there's no guarantee, but you have a better chance if you major in something like accounting over my stupid degree- communication and digital media. No one even knows what the heck it is. All they hear is the communication part and they think I can work for tv or a newspaper, and I'm like noooooo, it's about web design. Sortof. It's a stupid degree. And the head of the program lied to our group by saying we could make 98k a year starting out and we could be managers of graphic design companies. Hasn't happened yet. Now I'm going back to get a counseling degree, which should be a good move, because we will always have the damaged and disturbed among us. |

"Riots. All you need is a rock and a friend." The good days, the 90's. When people were visibly angry, and that anger turned into action, and that action was heeded and changes were made. Long gone, now they are called terrorists and held in maximum security penitentiaries, now they are martyr's and collateral damage. Long lost are the days of "Freedom of Speech", this prison state is influencing other countries, now so-called "freedom fighters" are being thrown in prison for treason. A sad state of affairs it has become. |

I understand where you are coming from, but really, how many people want to put that kind of effort and time into something that ultimately is a 50/50 shot anyway? Ten years for a doctorate degree only to find that there is nothing left after that anyway, that is one hell of a commitment. |

DUDE,,,become a TRUCKER!!!!!!!! Easy to learn how,,,and about 40,000 START PAY, your first year. See the Country have some fun, and make money doing it..... and TRUCK DRIVERS ARE ALWAYS IN DEMAND,,and STILL ARE! On the road again,,just can't wait to get on that road again....lol Driving a truck is the worst job I can think of. $40,000 your first year? I think I may have made a third of that. You work 14 to 18 hours a day (yes that's illegal but the dispatchers will push you), you're away from your home for weeks at a time and you have to live in that tiny box. It's like prison on wheels! Don't do it F&L! |

Lust, greed, and even envy have taken over the American way of life. We now live in a country where someone can be getting raped outside of the high school prom and people sit idly by...Nihilism is a pretty surefire view of this civilization anymore, and it will take a lot of action to make up for the disappointment that this country has given me. EDIT: Also in reply to the truck driving job, I thought about it but I don't think it would be for me in the long-run. Thank you for the advice though, friend. |

I got my son-in-law into driving a truck, four years ago.
He went to work for scheider trucking,,THEY got him his training and liecense and he was gone about three days a week, home four. I didn't say hardest, I said worst. Even when I had a job driving and was home every night I was still working as much as 18 hours a day. And that was a company owned by my cousin! Why bother having a home if you're never there? Just live in that prison cell they call a "walk in condo." My teeth are rotting because I never had a chance to brush them and EVERY driver I know has had this trouble. All you do is drive, sleep and wait on a loading dock. You like it? Good for you! But, I'd rather scrub toilets for $3 an hour. That's a less crap job. |

But, I'd rather scrub toilets for $3 an hour. That's a less crap job. I drive for a private company now, based in Indy, I have one of them walk in sleepers you spoke of. I am gone about five days a week. I have my lap-top, tv and money to sustain my week gone. My truck has an on-board computer that will NOT let me cheat it,,nor my dispatcher or company. I work about 8 to 10 hours everyday, then shut down whereever I want,,for the next 10 to 14 hours of rest. I CAN NOT DRIVE,,,after 11 hours of driving,,then I MUST HAVE a full ten hour rest break... ITS RELAXED,,EASY,,I NEVER do anything but DRIVE,,,I get great sleep, and I make about 60,000 a year. HOME for two days every week,,and they are Sat. and Sun..always. So,,cool if YOUR EXPERIENCE was a bad one,,I'm sorry you had to go through all that... Everyone who wants to TRY trucking,,needs to TALK FIRST with someone who can MAKE-SURE THEY,,,don't get abused out here through a crappy company... ![]() ![]() |

The problem with college educated people is that they expect, and in some cases demand, they make X amount of money to start... No, you start at the bottom and work your way up. Also... why hire someone right out of college who learned through a text book and has almost no real world experience... when they can hire someone who might be less educated, but has the real world experience. Results matter, nothing else.
