everyone deals with pain differently Souffie... but it's nothin' to worry about. Just go for one on the soft and fleshy... stay away from the boney areas and you'll be okay. Promise.

So.
Is there some way to like, numb the entire area before
going into the tattoo shop?
I don't drink :-)
How long would it have to last?
Do you have to go back or do they finish in one session?
There is a tattoo place across the street from me.
I think about it often..

idk about the numbing, i think for most, myself included, some of it's importance was going thru the pain to get it... but, if that's really a deal breaker for you, maybe they do that?!?!

a reputable tat shop will make you sign a waiver that you haven't been drinking, thins the blood. but...other options?? spock

how long and if you finish in one session, etc., depends on the size, color, etc.. one i have is my kids names in small chinese letters on my inner wrist. it was quick, 15 - 20 mins?

my distractions were just conversation with friends that came. and take something to squeeze, that helps too!

make sure it's a clean shop if you go! and remember...they're addicting laugh

Whoever says they don't hurt is full of ****! Or maybe they have never sat very long to get a larger piece. Some areas are more sensitive than others so it really depends on where you want to get it and how big.

The back of the neck does not feel good... especially after an hour and a half or so. My half sleeve was 9 hours total... almost 4 for the outline and 5 for the shading and color (2 different sessions). It honestly wasnt THAT bad until like 3+ hours into it. Leg didnt hurt much either... forearm was pretty sensitive but you definitely feel it no matter where you get it.

Make sure you eat something before you go so you dont get light headed... its just a reaction your body can have from what you're putting it through.

MOST IMPORTANTLY - Pick a good artist! Someone who is very clean and knows what they are doing. If you see someone with a tattoo that is very raised up even after its healed that means the artist went too deep and scarred them. If they have pictures of new work look to see if the skin is very red around the tattooed area. A good artist knows how deep to go and there wont be to much redness. DON'T GO TO JUST ANYONE.... check out their work and make sure it suites your style and looks nice and clean.

I have 2, both took over 2 hrs. Discomfort...yes. Pain?it is all relative. I had planed & was looking forward to each. Doesn't "desire" over come pain? Just be sure of what you are getting.

The above information by bastet is so very true.

My son has his own shop and will NOT tat you if you have been drinking, or partying.

Yes they are addicting. I`m planning on what I want for my second one.
