I haven't got children, but I still pay attention to topics that concern parents.

In the UK evolution theory is now compulsory on the national curriculum and I find it worrying that children are increasingly being encouraged to turn their backs on the idea of God.
At my nephew's school the birth of Jesus has been stuffed into the same category as Cinderella and other fairy tales (this is a C.of E. school I should add). I find this disturbing to say the least. I am aware that the state schools have to comply with what the government thinks the people want (and whether we like it or not, society is more secular), but I still worry about the situation. If I have children I would obviously teach them that God created the world. The prospect of sending them to a school where they will be told this is wrong and foolish fills me with dread.

How are you dealing with the prospect (or reality) of sending children to school in such a hostile environment?
I know my example is based on the UK, but I'd like to get as many view points as possible.

I am from the US and feel your pain. I feel christian faith being pushed as a fairy tale in the public school environment and in the public in general. The only way I know how to deal with it is to keep the kids involved in christian based activities,, around a circle of other christians,,,as often as possible. Keep the balance of what the 'WORLD' is enforcing and what a christian wishes to enforce and remind them often that you and God love them. If they get of the proper age you can explain to them that school teaches them some of the 'theories' people have about life, but it does not disprove their faith just because it doesnt include it in the discusson. I will most likely send my child to a christian based school,,but who knows , the world goes from one extreme to the other and then back again. Maybe we are at the edge of this NO GOD AT ALL extreme in our culture.

I think the issue is more similar to certain aspects of the Soviet system, for example, they pushed Lamarkian evolution which is a known nonstarter, therefore how do you teach Xian values and faith, while still providing an actual real world education?

I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean with this. Could you elaborate?

Very similar, I think, to how one might take their american family and live in China. By being strong in who one is and what one believes, by having those lessons ingrained deeply, an intelligent person can still observe and aknowledge what is going on in their environment and adjust accordingly.

Amen MsHarmony. We have to teach our children diligently, our beliefs and be sure they are Bible based.Nothing is stronger than a family who prays together and studies the word of God.It is our armor in this dead world.
