Sweet I am very happy with my life and what i have achieved. If I wasn't single be alot happier because if she was the right one I could start a family of my own and carry on traditions as well as making new ones.

I don't "hate" anything but I do loath the Hallmark implications of Christmas.

I am not a Christian so the spirit of Christmas and the "piggy" gift giving is a strange interpretation for the story behind the holiday. How did gifts -- of incense and mirth -- for a baby in a manger escalate to what some people celebrate today? slaphead

I digress. oops

I am Pagan, and we celebrate the earth and the change of the equinox. This is The Yule. I do enjoy the spirit of nature!

Aside from that -- Christmas lights are beautiful!!! I do love the visuals that the season brings. smitten

Just smile and it will be over soon. The more you dwell, the more it will affect you; that's no way to live life. flowerforyou

I am curious, who else here HATES this time of year? Personally I can't stand the whole Christmas/New Years crap. What are your opinions?
 I hate all holidays:smile:

I love Christmas but absolutely hate cold weather, like more than anything...

I've spent many a year "alone" on Christmas - away from family, and I have volunteered to work on a lot of those days, so someone else could spend time with their kids.

Those have been some of the most rewarding shifts I have ever pulled. You would be surprised the kinds of things that happen on Christmas, to remind you how good your life really is.

This year, I'm working Christmas Eve, AND New Year's eve, because of my schedule, but I'm cool with it.

Honestly what makes me hate it is seeing all the stupid f'ing commercials of people in "love" and all the movies of happy families. I am an outcast in my family so yay for not having any kind of family traditions that even involve me. That mixed with being single for 25 years now with the exception of maybe 5 months total through out my life. So what possible reason would I have to enjoy a time of year that celebrates people being close with their friends, family, and loved ones?

Not religious here so the winter celebration is not Christmas to me but I enjoy whatever I do. I do cook on the holidays and spend time with family and friends and that is good enough for me.

I like the New Year best even though I don't go out or anything. I believe starting anew is always a good thing.

jstans, you're ALIVE dude! Be happy about that - at least it's something! If your family sucks, be with friends, make friends, like someone else said, volunteer - giving back makes ya feel amazing! I know it's not easy with all the other stuff shoved in your face, but get out - go do something, anything - make a concentrated effort to be positive instead of letting the negativity consume you. Just my 2cents worth. flowerforyou

Well, you can either be bitter or you can make the best of things! winking

Many folks, including myself, have either lost their family or are not able to see them. I enjoy what I have and I make my own happiness. I'm single but I have wonderful friends, I volunteer, and have a great career. I keep busy and life is good.

I wish you a better outlook! flowerforyou

I tried the "woe is me" and "life sucks" thing for awhile

right about the time that my marriage of nearly ten years fell apart and I lost my really cool job as a lab manager for a medical research facility and went into kidney failure and almost died and had to start dialysis and have needles shoved into my arm three times a week to pull out every drop of my blood and clean out the the toxins and waste products that poison me and kill me

but all that negativity is even more poisonous to the spirit so I gave it up and got happy

if you think you got it bad you can come live my life a while

Life is what YOU make of it.
I have lost almost everything & I still look for the good rather than the negative.
Keeps me getting up, EVERYDAY.

Well, I'm sorry you feel the way you do...truly. But I would think that there might be a correlation between your bitterness and the five months you've had relationships in your entire life. I mean, if people are picking up the negative vibes here online...I can only imagine what it might be like in your presence. Seek help. Don't know what you've gone through...but it obviously was bad. Again, sorry...but life is what you make it...and given a choice between being around bitterness and happiness...well, it's not even a choice.

Too many times within life we let the bitterness take over and consume us. I know what it is like to be alone around the Holidays. Sure I have family & friends to be around. Even though it would be nice to have someone share that time with me. I guarantee you another can not always make you happy.

I have had times felt more alone having someone with me then I do when I'm alone. When one lets hate fill them within it overflows to those around them. Take time to reflect and find the good within and let that grow learn to smile and you will make those around you smile as well.

jstans if ya lived in Texas you would be more then welcome to eat with my kids and me we may not have much. But what we do have is love for each other which is Priceless........ we make each other laugh and enjoy the time we have around each other....

May you find the peace within that puts a smile upon your face. bigsmile

I really have no use for the snow and the cold, and I would gladly go somewhere warmer if the opportunity were to arise.

As for the holidays, they are just regular days for me.

Quiet, I know you weren’t trying to invoke sympathy or attention, but your story is touching. I knew of your health issues before but the rest I was unaware of until now.

You and Paper found each other which is so amazing in this selfish, crazy life. I know you, among others, value life every day even though life isn’t perfect.

Thank you for sharing and know that you are surrounded by “strangers” on Mingle that appreciate you too. flowerforyou
