Well we are home after spending the last 6 hours in the hospital with NO EEG done. They gave him the entire max amount of sedative and he NEVER fell asleep.

So what are they going to do now??

I have no idea, I am waiting for a call from the pediatrician, who is going to have no answers for me. I am going to just keep the appt I have with the new neurologist the end of January and see what they think is best.

My munchkin is doing good, thanks. I am frustrated that the EEG never happened today. For now, I'll just continue the seizure meds and wait for his appt with the neurologist. The pediatrician was supposed to call me back, but somehow I doubt they'll do that now. I have to call them tomorrow for something else anyway, I'll see what they think I should do.

Nicole, we had a similar problem yesterday. My kiddo went in for her yearly MRI and they gave her max sedation but she kept waking up. They did end up getting the brain images, but were unable to get the spine. They told me next time she will have to do general anesthesia. I have requested we bump to every 2 years now since she will get much more medication and I would think the risks are higher. She came home soooooooo irritable and then slept for 12 hours straight after I got her settled down. I hope you get some answers.....

Ugh, so you know my frustration! They gave him chloral hydrate because they said it won't affect the brain waves for the EEG. I asked them if there was some other medication, even in a small dose, that could be used. They told me that it would alter the brain waves and the test wouldn't be completely accurate. I said "but right now, we have NO test and NO results, wouldn't partial results be better than nothing?" They didn't agree with me. I am shocked at how little he's slept since we are home. I think he has only slept a total of 2 hours since we got home around 1:45pm. Thankfully we still have the seizure meds and have another 60 days waiting at the pharmacy. So far, the dose seems to be working, the only seizure he had was last week and he missed a dose cause he slept 12 hours and missed the evening dose.
