Why is it called stood up? Shouldn't it be called * KNOCKED DOWN* Never mind stood up. What about "understand"? I never understood "understood". You stand under a tree or an eve when it rains or the enemy is bombing your county. What's to stand under when you understand? In grade twelve the English teacher gave some explanation, but that was lame, or maybe misunderstood. |

I dont get out enough to have been stood up....HOWEVER, I did once drive to Atlantic City to meet a man who insisted dress nicely for dinner and promised to pay for my sitter.
I agreed to meet him on the casino floor (which is a VERY safe place to meet someone...cameras and security everywhere) He tells me when I get to the casino to call him. I did. He proceeds to give me directions to his HOTEL ROOM!  ....I am like UMMM NOOOO, I am not going to meet you in your room...he repeats the directions and room number...like IM THE JERK!
Needless to say I hung up the phone, got back in the car and drove 45 minutes back home..in my NEW outfit and payed the sitter and was PISSED! 
But in a few days I realized, its all for the best....yeah there were better things I could have done with my time and money...but I figured it out early....he's a jerk....better to figure it out now than in 6 months

It's what a lot of people do though. I prefer to be told (and via email or text is fine) that they wish to have the communication stop. I did it for a guy I was talking to for weeks. I realized that there were things I really did not like about this person. So, rather than just not returning his calls or emails, I told him that I wanted to stop the friendship. I know it's not fun to hear that and it hurts a little. But, I think it's so much better than getting the silent treatment and not knowing if the other person is losing interest or just busy. What a reasonable, responsible, adult approach!
