Well just wondering how common this is and if anyone can give me some advice on how to cope with this. i am a single mom of two and any meds i have tried leave me unable to function and take care of my kids. i took a couple of different thing for this and they make me sleep all the time don't know if this is normal but i was sleeping like 18 hours at a time and the people out there with children know kids don't sleep this long.
thanks for your time |

there was one year i was taking a med for my alergies that the doc had just given me, and on the bottle it said take 3 times daily as needed, i took one pill and i was out within 15min. i was zombied out for about 3 days i couldnt focus and i hated the sideeffects so i called the doc that was on call and to find out the dang alergy pill was also a sleeping and depression pill..my god. i didnt need a dang sleeping pill and i sure wasent depressed.. i ddint bother taking those dang things anymore infact i gave the rest of the bottle to a friend of mine that was taking the same thing..
but i had gone through depressed stage for awhile i had abortion when i was 16, and for along time i didnt know why i was depressed i ddint tell my doc for i didnt want anymore meds for what i had was enough... but i found out that i was going through post abortion syndrome. which made alot of sense. but im also going through dialysis have been for the last 4yrs. so that would make anyone depressed... just keep your head up and dont let things get to you.. you might have to change the doses of your meds sleeping that much and not able to focus on your family is not good have you tried using herbs as natural herbs can help |

Writer - I DO take it in the AM and still have trouble sleeping at night. Maybe I'll take it right before bed and it'll last through the next day? I dunno

Talk to your doctor ASAP. If he is not also a psychologist he may not be that knowledgeable about treating depression. Unfortuneately the cross over between medical and psychiatric care is not always the best.
Also If you are taking any over the counter medications, suppliments, or drinking it can amplify the sleepness. It is really important to tell your Dr. the truth. Different people respond differently to drugs so it may be that what you are taking is not the right medication or dose. I would talk to a well trained pharmacist. I found out after taking one prescription medication for almost ten years that it was counter indicatied. If you are sleeping too much it could actually be the depression and not the medication. You may actually need more medication to treat the depression. What you are getting may relax you enough to sleep but not enough to back off the depression. Treating depression is sometimes not a smooth process but when you get it right you will see it is more than worth the effort. Good Luck. |

Hang in there you will find the right combination and things will seem as different as black n white verses Color HDTV. Try to walk briskly every morning. The fresh air and natural light will help. Break chores down so you are not overwhelmed. Try to add good things to your diet. Do something simple and fun with your kids each day.

Be sure to talk with the doc about your symptoms and explain how the meds effect you and effect your daily living, so that he/she will be more likely to adjust your meds.
Keep a meds journal with the side effects and mood changes and such. Be sure to attend therapy... best treatments have shown to be a combination of meds and therapy. Best wishes! And I am glad to hear that you are aware of the meds and their effects! I have done case management with SMI, so if you have any questions that you can't get answer from your therapist or doc, feel free to send me an email! |
