Okay... there has been some cases in my son's classroom. Today I have been itching and feels like something on my head! Eek!

I just check my son's hair... He has what looks like dirty on the top of his head... and I can't tell if he has nits or just dandruff!

Help! who has dealt with this before... what am I looking for?

And the stupid pictures online don't help!!!!

I use to do hair for a living. Look in the "nape" area. Right above the back of the neck. Do you see anything that looks "white" or moving?

the nits would be almost glued to the hair itself. You would have to pull it off.
My daughter had it and I treated her several times with RID and NIX. And after awhile, they become immune.
The best treatment I ever did was to soak her hair in olive oil over night in a shower cap, then wash it with dawn dish soap in the morning. That way I wasn't using pesticides on her head anymore either. Then combed her hair out.
She's never had lice since then.

remember to bag up any stuffed animals for at least a week and spray lice killer on your furniture, carpet, and wash all of the bedding, and toss the pillows in the dryer for 20 min on high. That will kill the lil buggers

I don't know!!!

He has light hair!

I have him in the bath and scrubbed his head. I will check him again when he is done. I haven't seen anything moving and I think I checked his whole head.

I remember all that from being a kid.

If you ever seen my daughter, she is on my profile, she has really blonde hair and you can still see them. It is weird...Wow, I am itching just from the thought...I use to see it ALL of the time...Lemme know later what you find....

do you have a fine tooth comb? When he's in the bath have him put lots of conditioner on his head and then try the comb... wipe it on a white towel. See if you find any bugs.

It wasn't a fine tooth comb... but close enough... I did the conditioner thingy... and nothing turned up.

Gonna check him again in a minute once his hair dries a little more.

And I will get in the shower and do the conidtioner thing too!

I know a sure fire way to kill the nits and the lice......it is drastic but it WORKS!!!!!!!

My daughter's had long hair and it was terrible when they got lice, I tried all the "quick fixes" but they become immuned.

The only way to kill them in one swell swoop is to dye the hair.

My oldest had dark hair and she looked great with red high lights, my youngest had light blonde hair like mine.....she chose to go black....but my recomendation is to get a color that matches your son's hair AND YOURS!!!!!

Vacuum everything (couches, chairs, rugs...ect....) and immediatley throw out the bag in the vacuum....bleach your sheets, wash your blankest in HOT water and bag up stuffed animals for at least two weeks. Dry your bed clothes twice...the heat kills the lice.
It is alot of work but it gets your house free of lice.

The schools will check for nits if your child is itching his head, the comb that is provided in the lice kits are the best way to get rid of them, and it is tedious and forever LONG to do!

Most of the time that the school sends home warnings, you have a brain wave that makes you think you fell something crawling......try to NOT think that way. You will go crazy thinking you have bugs crawling on you.

Best of luck, Tanya!

One thing no one mentioned that is the usual suspect in reinfestation...boil your combs and brushes....if they can't be boiled, get rid of them and buy new. Also wash the drawer where you keep them with bleach water.

ACK!! I feel for you if he has them. It's a LOT of work and treatments are expensive. (or at least they used to be.. sprays, shampoo's, comb's)

I ended up getting them many years ago, from my ex-husband's nephew at the time, he had lice and slept on my pillow on the couch. Funny thing is, nobody else in our house caught them. JUST ME "lucky" lol The comb destroyed my hair and took HOURS to go through with that dang comb.

Be sure to spray EVERYWHERE.. along your baseboards, on/under the mattress, carpets, couch cushions..

my kids have never had it, nor has there ever really been any outbreaks of it in their school(s).

what i do know though is that the lice prefer clean hair - it makes it easier for them to climb on to. keep your kid's hair dirty, oily, and/or gel and slick it back. they'll find it too slipperly to cling to.

actually there's a lot of truth to this flowerforyou I know my sister got rid of her lil girl's lice by putting vaseline in her hair and braiding it in corn rows laugh she looked a lil funny for a while but it kills the lice with no pesticides.
