he was a Palestinian descent and the Army guys kept mocking him as "Camel Jockey", just like a bunch of tunnel vision mingle members here would love to. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/nadal-malik-hasan-wanted-army-family/story?id=9008184 Go ahead and keep mocking him. When you are quarantined one day into a place like Gaza I'll see how you gonna take the pressure. Jordanian descent, born in Virginia. Regarding being a psychiatrist, he gets to hear it all from everyone. Don't folks realize that most therapists have therapists to vent on for themselves? You are affected by what you hear, otherwise you wouldn't have bitter men and women who use their friends stories to complain how bad the members of the opposite sex are. From the news on CNN, it sounds like he's been trying to get out of the military totally, even hired a lawyer, for a while. So why is one newspaper says one thing, and another another thing? Are they clueless or what? |

By then they've usually gotten their chit straight and can provide actual legitimate answers instead of hearsay. |

this is like a suacide bombing exept it is suicide attack with guns. not the first one in the us. here are some other american suacide shooting rampages known or likely linked to is Islamic extreemism 1997 empire state building 1 dead, 2002 LAX shooting 2 dead, 2003 camp PA. shooting 2 dead*, 2006 seattle jewish federation shooting 1 dead* 2007 trolley square mall shooting 5 dead, and fort hood shooting 12+ dead. *:perpatraitor survived note: death toals do NOT include attackers so should we make a big deal out of all the Christians that go on shooting rampages??? In this country they far out number isolated incidents perpetrated by those in the islamic community |

And the fact they were fellow soldiers will piss off many... I would prefer he die from his injuries than live and face the horrific consequences from this, especially if "they" decide he is a terrorist and must make an example of him...but that's just me. |

From what I've seen on the news it had less to do with his religious beliefs and more to do with the fact that he just couldn't handle it mentally, and wasn't allowed to get out, driving him to the shooting. Still wrong, but until there's more legit information, religion should be the last thing brought up. |

I think the real problem in this, has to do with the fact, that USA was trying to send over a muslim man to Iraq or Afghanistan to kill fellow muslims. No matter how you look at it, you will end up with this answer. And again, i'm gonna say it, because it's confirmed by another newspaper too, he is a palestinian. not Jordanian. Doesn't matter anyway... Imagine if you are a french origin and USA is bombing France and you supposed to go there and kill french people.

Will not matter, most will not care, only focus on the crime.. very sad and difficult situation. |

If they started crap, and I was required to go, then it would happen. Where does one's allegience lie first and foremost? And at this point, I'm ignoring his nationality till the news gets it straightened out. One network said he was born in Washington and another in Virginia. Shakes head |

He willingly swore an oath to the Constitution, not to Islam.. In that uniform, he is an American soldier first and a muslim second. If his allegiance to Islam, in his mind, outweighed his allegiance to the Constitution and the United States such that he couldn't uphold his oath to the same.. There are ways to get out of the Army that don't involve running into an army post where soldiers are getting ready to deploy, yelling 'Allahu Akbar!!' and shooting up the place.. If all he wanted to do was commit suicide, there are also ways of doing that without running into an army post where soldiers are getting ready to deploy, yelling 'Allahu Akbar!!' and shooting up the place.. As for the invading France analogy.. the French have a thing called the foriegn legion.. people from all over the globe enlist in it and are expected to carry the fight to the enemy where ever that may be, even if that means the enlisted man's home country... |

A person ought to have an inner conscience to follow and not follow orders from any superior . Politicians come with absurd and unfair decisions of life and deaths . Some folks use their brains and refuse unfair orders and some just keep on following them .
We are all different . I personally answer only to my conscience regardless to what others say . |

That's a convenience a soldier doesn't enjoy.. when you raise your hand and swear your oath to the Constitution, you don't have that right anymore.. the only order a soldier is obliged not to follow is an unlawful one. Being deployed to a war zone doesn't fit that description.. You follow your conscience.. Soldiers follow lawful orders from superior officers.. |

"Needing mental help" He is a psychiatrist. He was stationed at Walter Reed. Never been in combat. Your theory doesn't add up. You don't think that individuals that work in mental health, don't need help with what they deal with? You don't think that working in mental health doesn't take a toll on someone? An individual that thinks mental health professionals aren't affected by their work is very mistaken! PTSD can occur not only in war/combat. And other mental disorders can occur from working within the trauma of others. I am no way excusing his actions. ** added: mental health professional are in no way immune to mental disorders, illness or mental strain/stress! |
