Haha yes she is!

Also yes a 9 yr old KNOWS that a gun would kill someone. I have a 9 yr old and she knows good and well. I just asked her if you got mad at someone and shot them with a gun, would it just hurt them or kill them. She said it would kill them. I told her that some don't believe that a 9 yr old would know that a gun could kill. Her jaw dropped and her response was.........

"I'm 9 yrs old and I know that a gun can kill people".

Kids are not given enough credit for what they do know.

The only way I could take a life is in self defense.

The only way I could take a life is in self defense.

Even after I responded this still has me questioning myself.

Don't get me wrong, if anyone attempts to harm me or mine, I doubt I would hesitate on defending myself or them.

But I too have gotten soooo heated over incidents, arguments, or events that I have stated, I'd do someone harm, but knowing that I was just talking trash. Will that one fateful day come when I don't see it as trash talking and act on it? Who knows? But if I act on it in the heat of the moment am I not still responsible for my actions or would it be temporary insanity as I know better???

LOL...very cute but I'm sure that she doesnt realize all the factors that go behind pulling a trigger. You can say that she knows that it would kill someone but does she know what the word "kill" actually means. I'm not suggesting thats she doesnt know but, the after effect of doing that. Also, girls are smarter than boys.......at that age only ;)

On what factors???
What makes it ok to put a child in jail?
What makes it ok not to have the child go to jail?
What factors do you speak of???

question is too broad but i see that the laws envolving minors being charged as adults are reasonable and necessary. the system works well in these instances in general.

I think it would have to be a case by case consideration

blanket statements just give us stuff like zero tolerance where kids get suspended from school for having sporks

Quiet, what about concerning these 2 scenarios, should these children be tried as adults?

These two are pretty recent crimes committed by children in Florida and I have followed the cases as they truly shocked the heck outta me.

#1 - approx 10 kids under 18 enter a house, with weapons, repeated sexually abuse the mother, beat both mother and son, had mother perform sexual acts on her son, doused both with chemicals to remove their DNA.

#2 - a group of about 5 kids, set another kid on fire. Doused kid with flammable liquid, set kid on fire and watched him run while on fire.

What do you think?

Should kids be charged as adults and face adult punishment?

1 - Yes, let the punishment fit the crime.
2 - No, children who commit serious crimes need rehabiliation.
3 - Yes. If they know right from wrong, then they should accept the consequences.
4 - No, instead hold the parents responsible.

I dunno, I couldnt say either way

I would have to be a judge presiding over the cases and get testimonies and psych evals and stuff like that to be able to decide something like that. I'm not really qualified to make those kinda decisions

sometimes what the jury, attorneys, judges, etc knows isn't what the general population knows. so it's not an easy call
