My 2 are both rescues. Shadow was dumped on the property and I found Bella online at Petfinders. We've bought from breeders, and we've rescued. They each had their qualities and all of them were awesome family members. |

hey all...just wanted to drop in and say I hope all of you and your furry and feathered friends are doing well :) Good. I had to rotate my tom turkeys now to a different pen for the next couple of months. Typical males overdoing it with the gals, and they fighting each other over it all. Dorks. They're real sweeties though, especially Drago, my gentle Giant (literally, a White Giant). I used to work at a turkey farm and they are sweet, but no offense, dumb as a rock..lol but I love ALL animals anyways...... :) |

I used to work at a turkey farm and they are sweet, but no offense, dumb as a rock..lol but I love ALL animals anyways...... :) You'd be kinda dumb if you were caged all day, and not allowed to explore. They aren't really. Given the freedom to learn and explore, they're rather interestingly smart. I had 3 who would walk up the side porch and tap on the glass door. Someone would come out, and they'd sit on the top step and natter at you while you sat and petted them. I've also had them "help" me weed the flowerbeds, and like a kid, you didn't have them do anything important, because they didn't always just take out the weeds. LOL! It only takes me one time to show them a new direction if I'm rotating them into another yard to learn how to go go back and forth. Humans are bad about killing the smart ones, be they birds, cattle or sheep. after all, it's more trouble to keep the smart ones alive, who are getting into trouble, then to kill them and keep the masses down. Have you read any of the animal books by Jeffrey Mousarieff Masson? I HIGHLY recommend them. |

I just remember working in the barns with them, that on really hot days, they would sit together in a corner and literally suffocate themselves instead of moving. |

I have a cat named Bodie amongst the many other nicknames I have given him. He is part siamese and will talk very loudly to let me know what he wants/needs. He is a sweetie and loves to sleep on mommies lap. He also has a strange obsession with water. Loves to lick the water in the shower and loves water bottles.
He is a rescue cat that I have had for about 10 months. |

I just remember working in the barns with them, that on really hot days, they would sit together in a corner and literally suffocate themselves instead of moving. Ahh, yeah, turkeys aren't that good in hot weather. They can do the south, but their range is better up in the northern climes. Mine are hunkered under the trees or under a fan when we start dropping temps of 90+ And it's worse with the 2 White Giants because they, like the barn ones, are unnaturally bred. I had to get out a couple times and wipe their heads down with a cool rag to bring their temps down this year. They will stand in the watering pools too, to try and keep the temps down. I used an old ice maker a few times and through ice out to chill the water. Just remember. Humans have made them what they are. There's plenty of people who drop due to heat stroke at the factory buildings that have no a/c units, and they actually can walk themselves out. Barns do nothing for air movement and circulation, and by the time you breed for mindlessness in an animal, they cease to do anything more then exist. |
