Being single can make the upcoming holidays not seem that appealing. If you could do anything you would like how would you spend your alternative holiday?

Because it is cheap to fly on Christmas day I was thinking about going some place. I wonder why more hotels don't cater to singles on Christmas?

Sometimes its just best to think of them as just another day of the week.

I suppose but I have always wondered why it is like everyone pretends that they are with family when many times that is not the case.
Most of us buy what we want for ourselves so it is not about the gifts. It just seems sad that not an opportunity for everyone to have fun. I suppose that is why the Runs or Snow play has gotten so popular. |

I am avaricious about my alone time and holidays!
My parents passed away in 2005, and I am all that is left of my ‘clan’. My parent’s were really into all that stuff but not me. I am not a Christian so the majority of holidays are out the window anyway. I love the patriotic holidays – and Labor Day to pay tribute to the American workers. I am always invited to the festivities of my friends but 90% of the time I stay home or plan my own activity. I have gone on cruises over Thanksgiving, and flew off to Mexico from Christmas through New Years. Many times I stay home and cook a really unhealthy meal and watch movies. I love spending time with my animals -- and no one bothers us. Holidays are bunk and just another day on the calendar – especially Valentine’s Day. I just don’t get them ... What’s wrong with having a huge party, lots of food, friends and music on a Tuesday in the middle of June? I’d rather celebrate a “because we can day”! |

I don't see being single as a bad thing, so um, yeah, I don't need an alternative holiday.

Since both of my parents, grand parents ect have passed away it is my brother, little sister, me and our family's that is left.
We all just came back from a cruise together for the first time.. While we were gone they all said they would like to do that again I suggested we all get together and go to a ski lodge in Colorado together for Christmas. So we all could not only be together but have a white Christmas. For some that may not seem like a big deal but since we live in Texas a White Christmas is not something we get to experience..... |

Being single can make the upcoming holidays not seem that appealing. If you could do anything you would like how would you spend your alternative holiday? I have organized parties or get-togethers for other like minded friends....Always a great fun time! Ski season is starting soon. Get a very early rental someplace where they are likely to get early snow - a picturesque locale with a big holiday discount. Can't beat it. Alternatively - off season rental in Hawaii. WOW Of course if you are on a budget all you need is a tent and someplace enjoyable to spend time with your friends....OK if there is enough friends, you may need a few extra tents. That's why I keep my old tents and the spare stove. So - save some money and spend some time with your friends. Maybe someone will organize another nice mingle2 event!! |

The holidays are a bummer for me....my late mother used to host massive parties and all the homecooked meals & goodies. Thanksgiving & X mas were really big deals back then.Family ,friends, neighbors (sometimes even strangers were invited!) Geeeszzzz..people used fly in from all over just to attend her dinners some years!
She is gone now... so it's just me and my kids...my brother is usually out of town with his inlaws. I try to make the holidays special for my kids but I don't have the means to go all out. Even the kids feel like the holidays just are'nt right anymore. |

I dont know about making up my own holiday, but i like the holidays..
I love Christmas.. its not about what the holidays bring me, its about what I bring to the holidays.. if I want to enjoy them I will. Whatever is meant to be is meant to be. |

Ah reread the OP.
Umm.. just enjoy the day off, and spend time with my son, and my family. I dont need a man to enjoy that. A man is a compliment to my life..not a need, or a have to thing. |

It is a bummer being alone on holidays! I find doing volunteer work helps;work at the local food pantry delivering food baskets, meals-on-wheels drops off hot meals to shut ins and elderly, work at a soup kitchen or homeless shelter.Volunteer at a nursing home or hospice. There is always someone worse off, sometimes its hard to remember the blessings we do have.

Two yrs ago all 4 of my kids were home for Xmas..I had lost my husband and we lost my mom (their grandma) The first time in almost 11 yrs...one daughter was in the Navy and hardly ever home for Xmas..It was so nice as the oldest and youngest kids had a falling out in 99 when their dad died suddenly and were together and talking again.. Christmas was always a big holiday for us, baking lots of cookies, making candy and wrapping presents.. We hadn't had that in a long time...It sure was nice....

Hah!
Should have seen the huge Thanxgiving feasts, sassy~soirees that I threw in Europe ... just cuz I love the foods of that holiday ... They were clueless to the ritual! No matter, some of the best holiday moments I can recall. Fantastic! All of life is a festive holiday ... seize the day! Make your own party, I've had many alone ... and they ROCKED!!! |

Being single can make the upcoming holidays not seem that appealing. If you could do anything you would like how would you spend your alternative holiday? I usually have to work on the holidays, or at least one out of the major holidays. If that is he case I really am too tired to think much about the holiday. For the evenings/nights I do not have to work I spend with my famiy. |

I agree volunteering can be a good way to spend a holiday and I have done that, It is just I think I would enjoy a holiday here and there that was more about enjoying it more myself than making every holiday about making every one elses "dream" come true.
