Some times people say the most insensitive, unconcious crapola. Michelle Obama speaks to women that know what women face and how much more than pay than what a man pays for the same thing, an you can't even muster enough empathy to that? But instead rant about racism not working and sexism? Now Obama's wife is the enemy too? My only enemy in this debate is the proposed health reform bill. I'm just state and asking if being called a sexist is next? People oppose what congress has on the table and are called racist, why because Obama is black. Now Michelle Obama is saying it's a woman's issue, will we be called sexists if we oppose it? |

I'm not sure where the racist stuff came in, so I won't comment there. But, I don't think that making a call out to women is considered sexist, nor do I think that if you're opposed to health care reform you would be considered sexist. My take is that women are TRADITIONALLY primarily responsible for this aspect of family life so therefore Ms. Obama wrote a speech appealing to that particular audience. It's basic communications 101 in college (or high school), you write your speech for your intended audience. She, at that moment, was appealing to women and why, in her belief, they should be advocating health care reform.
This isn't an issue of men against women, black against white, Democrat vs Republican etc. It's an issue that affects EVERYONE one way or the other. We should start looking at the issues unemotionally and try to figure out a solution that is workable for the majority of the people most of the time. It is never going to be perfect for everyone all of the time, life just doesn't play out that way. My personal opinion on health care reform: it's long overdue and it's coming whether we like it or not. As to the shape it's taking now, there are many many aspects I don't necessarily agree with, mostly, I don't believe that the government has a clue on how to run something this large and complex. There should be some sort of government-funded program where everyone can get free quality healthcare 24/7/365 if they don't have access to a private policy. Private policies should be affordable for both individuals and businesses that provide it. If you or your business opts to keep a private policy in place, you should get some form of tax credit to offset the difference between the government policy and private policy. Tort reform is ABSOLUTELY necessary. The rub comes in as to how to pay for it. Taxes will, of course, go up, but how to do this somewhat equitably? My thought is a federal sales tax. One cent of every dollar spent goes to pay for (and is dedicated SOLELY to) healthcare. Only the poorest of the poor will feel the affect of that. Most of us will never notice the difference, except for in very large purchases. Just my thoughts on this early Saturday morning. |

Health care is a woman's issue. We're the ones that take care of the family. So us dads are just nobodies ![]() How many of you dads are taking care of your children alone...24/7? Maybe some..I know a few, very few. I don't have my girls 24/7 but neither does my ex. We are equally responsible. I'm the one responsible for their insurance. I don't want governemnt messing with what I have. Why do they need to reform the whole thing and not have a way to pay for itwithout putting us further into debt? If they say money saved through stoping fraud and abuse to the system then why don't they stop that now, put the money they "save" aside that would prove they can do it with those funds and then go ahead with reforming health insurance. TJ, you made an interesting comment...."I don't want government messing with what I have." Don't you work for the Federal Government? Employed by USPS? Fascinating. |

And I really don't understand what your point is. We are a seperate entity of the government. We are't subsodized at all by the government. Every ones pay comes from postage not taxes. We are however regulated by the government and that is what's hurting us right now. We are being pushed to the limits with our work load because of the economy. Loosing jobs routes getting bigger. It's making it very dificult to finish our routes in 8 hours but still management is trying everything to push us out. We can only do so much in 8 hours. The government wont let the company do things they feel necesary to try and stay afloat and get out of debt. They say in the bill that unions wont be affected, and I really don't like that becaause that's not fair for all is it? And billions of dollars is going to some unions under this bill(more bailout for the auto workers?) That is not right! |

Ok I knew it was just a matter of time. Now those of us who oppose this plan will be sexists. First Lady Michelle Obama made the case Friday morning that health care reform is a women's issue and called on female activists to support President Obama's reform plan. "Health insurance reform and what it means for our families is very much a women's issue," Obama said, speaking to a group of female advocacy leaders at the White House. "If we want to ensure women have opportunities that they deserve, if we want women to be able to care for their families and pursue things they could never imagine, then we have to reform the system." Women play a unique and increasingly significant role in families, she said, with eight in 10 mothers reporting they are the ones responsible for choosing their children's doctors. More than 10 percent of women in this country are caring for a sick or elderly relative, she said. "Being part of the sandwich generation, raising kids while caring for sick or elderly parents, that's just not a work-family balance issue anymore... it is a health care issue," Obama said. Speaking before the first lady, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that insurance companies can charge women more than men for the same coverage. She noted that insurance companies in some states can deny coverage to women who are victims of domestic violence because they are considered to have pre-existing conditions. "A system that treats women like that is unconscionable," Sebelius said. http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/09/18/politics/politicalhotsheet/entry5320221.shtml ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

times are changing. more and more dads have custody or have equal custody. I have shared custody of my son for a while now....50/50. But I do see dad's get the short end of the stick a lot because of dead beat dads. but there are more and more dead beat moms popping up these days

Healthcare is exactly what it is, healthcare, oh just not socialized healthcare.
It should not have a color or race attached to it! Men are just as significant in this issue as women. |

This includes healthy meal making, taking off of work when the kids are sick, buying the vitamins, taking care of the sick people at home, telling the kids to dress warm, telling the husband to go to the doctor, etc., etc., etc. |

there are many dads like that. there are dad's raising their kids without mom in the picture at all. I'm sure dad's are just as capable of doing these things as moms. My ex husband does as much as I do when my son has been with him. even if it is a married couple and the mom is a stay at home (BTW more and more men are becoming stay at home dads) they earn a living for the family and have as much rights as someone that stays home

I've not seen it with my relative's families or my friend's families. I don't see it with the single moms that I know either. I didn't see it growing up either. |
