I wish I knew the answer to that. I need knees replaced but they wo'nt yet .They say I'm too young .Meantime I live with it . I have been living with my problems for a few years now, and have had almost no treatment for it, which is my own fault/choice. But now im struggling with normal everyday stuff, like picking stuff up, and crudely, wiping my own butt! |

I was taking methotrexate but quit because i was worried about the effects it was having on my liver(i drink a fair bit, and the mixture is potentially damaging). Was lucky i did stop taking them though as i caught hepatitis E, and my liver was almost shot just due to that.

Phenocaine is a "natural" anti-inflammatory you can get at
the health food stores. One of the doc's I type for is recommending it to his elderly patients, replacing their Celebrex with it. Apparently has fewer side effects than Celebrex and easier on their system. It doesn't work for everybody, just like any med, but for the people it does help, they swear by it, seems to work for most. Another herbal to try is "mangosteen". The patient who told the doc about phenocaine and mangosteen has really bad rheumatoid arthritis and she started using these two herbals, and she stopped her pain killers and some other meds and was pretty much pain-free. Worth trying. Also, glucosamine-chondroitin is recommended for arthritic joints - again, at the health food store. It works for the majority of people who use it. The fish oil capsules do help too from what I have heard, also good for your heart, the docs recommend 3000 mg a day. With your liver issue, you should check with your doc or pharmacist on these meds. I hope you feel better soon. Take care. |

I have pain in one shoulder and I did have physical therapy and it went away for awhile but now it is back.
I use Capsicum Cream it is of course applied topically and it really works!! I buy it in Mexico. They do sell it in the drug stores in US but the stuff from Mexico always seems to work better, I even buy Mexican aspirin, I swear it works better than US made aspirin. I think the Capsicum Cream is worth a try in combination with other medications. Good Luck |

Another medication is Neurontin, it was developed for siezures but they found out it also is good for many types of pain including joint and muscle pain. You must see a physician and get a RX. It is not a narcotic.

For muscle pain Arnica Montana. For joint pain, I just use a heating pad.

Ginger root is a good anti-inflammatory.
Also infuse ground cayenne pepper in oil (two weeks) melt bee's wax into it, apply daily, it may take about a week or two to begin its effects. WASH HANDS real good after use. A home made version of an over the counter ointment. |

Thank you everyone for all these ideas. I have a few weeks off work coming up and i plan to take some of them up. I have to do something now, i have left it too long.
I did forget to mention that what i have got is Psoriatic Arthritis. Its pretty similar in many ways to Rheumatoid. |

Damn joints are causing me grief. What are the best alternative/herbal ways of relieving the pain? I hear sex is the best for everything |

Ok ...
I'l do this for Dan... labour of love to throw on my clinic persona here ... Understand that, in natural medicine, I treat/cure cause ... do NOT merely tweak symptomology. Not certain if you are dealing w/ rheumatioid arthritis (???) ... by definition ALWAYS trickier, as it is an immune system attack. That said: BEST is a MSM/Glucosamine/Chondroitin combination capsule, twice daily. (study all 3 ... TONS of research/studies info available, proven umpteen times over!) Will take down inflammation ... AND rebuild the joint surface and lining, increase the joint fluid/lubrication and significantly decrease pain, increase flexibility as this occurs. Best brand, w/ best price point and highest "wattage" in US is the WHOLE FOODS brand. I'm told that there is a Whole Foods Shoppe in London now. So, I'll proceed w/ this advice as if that is the Shoppe you will frequent. W/ this product alone, I've seen joints rebuild and restore, and arthritis abate, including my own left knee. ALSO, incorporate a good full spectrum multiple mineral and a high dose of fish liver oil capsules. In US, the NOW brand is a great product and price point, also available at WFs. I use the NOW full spectrum multiple minerals and fish oil for myself, my clients and all referrals such as this. Herbs that are great to incorporate are Cumin Tumeric Ginger ... All available in tincture or capsule form, also at WFs. Eat alotta curry, eat alotta TART dried cherries. Drink alotta freshly grated ginger tea, and TART cherry juice. Dried cherries are a great antinflammatory and they simultaneously have a pain killing quotient, that being that 20 dried TART cherries equals the antinflammatory/pain killing power of one adult aspirin. Yes, Ibuprofen or aspirin as absolutely necessary. They TEMPORARILY take down inflammation/pain like a treat... but are quite brutal on the ole tummy. As w/ Dad's gout, go easy on the uric acid producing foods, mostly meaning meat, fish, proteins ... study this one. Aroma baths and massage, highly indicated and effective here! Follow this and the results WILL be majikal!!! ... GL ... |

Dancere, that was brilliantly useful, i really appreciate it that you took the time to write all that.
I have Psoriatic Arthritis rather than Rheumatoid. Right now it is mainly affecting my fingers and toes. I did actually look for MSM/Glucosamine/Chondroitin tablets when i first discovered what i had, someone recommended it to me a long time back. I couldnt find the combined capsule anywhere, though i didnt search too extensively. I could probably order them from the states anyway if they arent available here. I found the shop you spoke of, its the other side of the city unfortunately, but maybe i can buy from them online. I dont think i could actually eat any more curry than i already do! I practically live on the stuff! Thanks for the excuse not to stop though. I was thinking it was bad for me! I will put pink_lady in charge of my aroma baths and massages! She will be living with me real soon. One question, if you dont mind...should i be taking ibuprofen or aspirin daily? or just as and when to relieve symptoms? proving my gut can handle it!) I will be taking serious notice of what you have said. Thanks again. |
