However, I didn't ask for anyone's particular views of religion. I don't give a rat's *** if you ( or anyone else ) feels it to be a waste of time.

My question was about the effects news of an alien life form would have on the various religions.

I dont think it would change religion much. At least, as a christian, I believe The Lord created everything including all the stars and planets and universes. Any life forms would also be included.

As to the dinosaurs, I think dinosaur is a term that is post biblical. There are several references to 'dragons' which could easily be what we later referred to as dinosaurs.

Read the Word. Don't just listen to denominational interpretations. There's much there that's not taught - like dinosauers & such. If there is life on another planet or planets, Christ would still be Lord there and God would still be God, I would think. People who don't read for themselves . . . well, what do you think they should do with their opinions? Whether it's the Bible or the newspaper? Read - it's the other white meet!

Why would that be an issue for you - since the word "Dinosaur" wasn't defined until the middle 1800's? I would be AMAIZED if the word Dinosaur were in the bible, because that would mean the authors were using a word that wasn't "coined" until thousands of years later.

Well I think you have to be more specific. If we just found "Life" on other planets, does that include a microbe or an amoeba? I don't think that would have an impact on religion.

Now, if we were contacted by an advanced alien civilization, that would have an impact. What if the aliens made contact and told us that they have been watching us for thousands of earth years and were responsible for our genetic manipulation, gave us intelligence and were the Gods as described in the Bible?

Now that would be something!

We know dinosaurs to have lived about as late as 65,000,000 years ago. Maybe that's why he's scratching his head as to why the Bible never mentioned them. Children at my child's school are asking the same question.

You're absolutely right, the term dinosaur did not exist at the time. Maybe they could have used the Greek term "Terrible Lizard" instead?

None whatsoever because those who believe God created everything will still believe God created these aliens of yours .

All you have to do is look at the history of the major religions to know what will happen. Wholesale slaughter in the name of god, jehovah, allah, etc.

May they could get their own gods.... we could give them a god....we have so many... surely no one will miss a few?

One way or another many people will tie in the discovery of this alien life to fit in with whatever their beliefs are. There will be conspiracy theorists who refute the evidence, or Christians who find a way of adapting the meaning of a bible passage to accomodate it. Some will believe that these aliens ARE God. The list could go on.

It will just be something else for us to all disagree upon. To me religion is already completely absurd, and unbelievable. I dont see how alien life could make it any more ridiculous.

Because religions want to control your thoughts, your body, your money and everything . Also religions are some sort of politics whereas power is supreme .

the only reason we know about them is cause we dig up the bones. I dunno if they had much of a archeaology program going in the old testament days

the only source on this planet comes from meteors

there is a layer of Iridium just above the layer where they find the dinosaur fossils

so the thinking is a giant meteorite changed the climate and killed the dinosaurs

and the surviving rodent mammals that burrowed underground were what evolved to become man

we didn't evolve from monkeys, but from rats

If it was the meteor that killed the dinosaurs, wouldn't the iridium be found WITH the fossils rather than just above??

I mean, the meteor would have hit, but the climate change wouldn't have been immediate enough to kill everything off. Thus the dinosaurs would have died AFTER the meteor hit.

I would think that the iridium would have been found just under the fossils.

but, just from my reading, they think the dust cloud stayed in the atmosphere for a few hundred years before settling to earth
