why can't they tax things I don't like????? when did it stop becoming all about me??? grumble

seriously...I think these taxes are getting out of hand though. If you tax one person's "sin" tax them all....like chocolate or sweets. I don't eat sweets...so tax those...they aren't healthy either

All through my boy's school years there were soda and potato chip vending machines...
who gives a crap what someone buys with their food stamps..whoa

Why does every body care soooooo much about what others do? If their not hurting you..why bother to worry about it?

Cuz some people have to have someone to blame something on, anything.. ugh

I didn't see how it affected food stamps any more than those not on food stamps.

Dam'ed if I do and dam'ed if I don't.laugh

It's not my idea so, why attack me??

I been tryin' for the last year to find at least one thing he's come up with that I could support.

Help me out here, all you BHOBNer, Liberals. Where ya'll at?

Don't worry we are here.

The tax on sugary beverages most likely won't pass. Though he is willing to look at almost anything.

You willingness to look for one thing you can support is a bit suspect, I think you really started this topic to get away from the speech topic.. rofl Anything to ridicule BHO.

An who will determine what is considered a junk food? smokin

The same folks who decided on the Tobacco Tax. What happened to the tobbacco lobbyists?

An when they raised the tax on cigarettes, I went to makin my own. If by some insane reason this got passed I'd simply start makin my own soda. I know how to make root beer an ginger ale myself. smokin

drinker did the same. Soda , nah, I found healthy cheap substitutes for that 20 years ago.

Exactly and you are not alone, many don't like anything just because it has something to do with Obama. ugh Luckily you don't represent us all.

You may not have availed yourself of financial support benefits for your child but your life and that of your child has been helped immensely by the government every day of your life. I think we Americans are so used to our conveniences we forget where they came from.

another tax on the middle class he said he would not tax

PROMISE:
"I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000
a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your
payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes" (September
12, 2008, Dover, NH)
[Transcript] [Video clip]

"No one making less than $250,000 under Barack Obama's plan will see one
single penny of their tax raised," Joe Biden said, "whether it's their capital
gains tax, their income tax, investment tax, any tax." (Joe Biden, Oct. 3,
2008, Vice Presidential Debate, St. Louis, MO)
[Transcript] [Video Clip]

DATES PROMISE BROKEN:
Feb. 4 -- just 16 days into his presidency, Obama signs into law a 156 percent
increase in the federal excise tax on tobacco, a hike of 61 cents per pack,
which took effect on April 1.

The tax increase falls squarely on the shoulders of the middle and low-income
Americans Obama said he would not raise taxes on: 55 percent of smokers are
"working poor", one in four smokers live below the poverty line, and on
average, smokers, whose median income is a little more than $36,000 make about
30 percent less than non-smokers.

Feb. 26 -- Obama released his FY 2010 budget which imposes a range of tax
hikes including a "cap and trade" tax of $646 billion. Every American family
will pay this tax in the form of higher gasoline, heating and electric bills.
By adding together the "cap and trade" tax increase along with other energy
tax hikes in the Obama budget and dividing by the number of families, it's
clear what this annual tax hike would be: The average American family would
pay, directly or indirectly, approximately $10,000 per year in new energy
taxes.

Just checking... I don't begrudge people that need help. Many people don't have the support of family members or friends that can take them in to help in hard times either. I wouldn't call that babysitting. And Obama's own mom had to resort to help financially from the governement and looks like he did well too.

I pay less for cigarettes after the hike, than I did 20 years ago, one just has to use your head.

I didn't take his promise of no new taxes on those making less than 250,000 to include any of those taxes you mentioned but of course to include them certainly helps you to make him a liar.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/08/06/feehery.tax.promise/

cnn also has a word or two about it

it is not just me

the last president that promised

"""no new taxes"""

lost their reelection try because they lied as well

I gave up soda like in my twenties so this won't effect me. I am attempting to quit smoking right now so I will not be making my contributions to the tax pool on that level anymore. I will have to find another way to contribute though, gotta do my part in keeping this country great.love

That's how you and reuters interpret it, not how I did or others. Besides Obama didn't start all the raises in taxes on cigs. My own state raised them 3 times before the time Obama had anything to do with it.
