... PLEASE! ... Encourage her to study 5~HTP ...

The brain chemistry that she's seeking to balance, will be in INSTANTLY w/in her reach, w/out ill~effects upon the child.

There are MANY books and online sources, as regards 5~HTP ... flowerforyou
If she wants to smoke pot the world will still go on. Give some people a break. It's not like she's been up for 12 days on meth or noddin' off at the wheel from doin' heroin......

Being a breast feeding mother and doing illegal drugs is not only criminal, it is also incredibly stupid and detrimental to the baby. NO BREAKS should be given.

She needs to seek help for her stress not self-medicate.
It's just POT! It's a plant. It's basically harmless outside of the damage to the lungs that occurs with smoking anything. It's only POT. It should be it's own food group like vegetables.

Even if that is true which is HIGHLY debatable, it is still illegal and reckless.
Being illegal doesn't mean anything really. Everybody breaks the law on pretty much a daily basis in one way or another...

Everybody?huh

My friend Jennifer called me up last night and said she smoked a bowl of marijuana, due to too much stress. She is breastfeeding, which is the kicker. What should she do? Will the THC affect her baby? or should she refrain from breastfeeding for a bit and stick with formula?

It's sad to me that she can't deal with stress without pot. How is she ever going to learn how to deal with stress?

*shakes head* Anything you are doing that you have to question if it is a risk to your child, you shouldn't be doing. They do not have a choice to have that crap inflicted upon them, but you do. Find another stress relief that does not inflict harm onto a child who has no voice. This is a no-brainer for me. What's more important to her, the pot, or her child?!

Just tell her to find some other way to relieve stress

She definitely shouldn't breast feed the baby while the weed is in her system, as it will also take a few days before it's fully out....Perhaps talk to her about finding another way to relieve her stress. Smoking weed during (what might be) post partum depression or baby blues can lead to smoking more, drinking and possibly drugs.

I think this is the point where I would literally be yelling at my friend and telling her what she's is wrong as well as trying to help her find a solution-because once you decide to have and keep a baby, all the drinking and drugs stays in your past, it's all about your baby now.

The only thing that stopped my morning sickness when I was pregnant was a couple puffs in the morning... it was that or go to work sick every morning..
I only did it when I needed to and my boys are all adults, intelligent and doing fine.

I wouldn't do it on a regular basis and wouldn't do it while nursing..
if she wants to smoke pot, probably best to just stop breast feeding and go with the bottle.
