Topic: 60 yr old man slaps strangers baby at walmart | |
---|---|
Funny, when I was a child no one would have thought a thing about this. I can actually remember being "corrected" by adults that weren't my parents, and no one thought a thing of it. Of course now I can't imagine what would happen if a parent "corrected" their own child in public much less what would happen if a stranger did it. Never should a person do this to another persons child. it's ridiciolous. The baby was crying. it's a baby. I road the bus to school, and I made my own supper when I got home because my single parent mother was working two jobs. Did I say it was the best of times? No. But you know what else we did when I was young? We took responsibility for ourselves. Did I get spanked by a stranger? Sure did. Did I deserve it, you bet!! So what I got punished. Did you here me cry about it? Then yes, now? No. I was probably annoying a shitload of people. We coddle the modern child way too much and then drug the **** out of it when acts up. ADD, HDAD, it's all psychological crap made up by pharmacutical companies to pad wallet. When we were hyper, they threw us outside and we ran it off. And I haven't even got to talking back to parents or calling them anything but Mom, Dad, Ma'am or Sir. Blame the man, no, blame the parent for letting it go that far. thank u i blame the man he was a nut but the mom should've done something |

I don't want to stray from the issue at hand here but not having children I'm trying to relate so here goes: One time my cat was in the front yard and a kid walked by and for no reason threw a rock at my kitty. My husband at the time had to pin me to the ground to keep me from ripping the kid's head off.

In all honesty, I can see faults on every person's side who was able to make a conscious decision. Now people may not agree with my opinion, people may, lets find out.
On the man, I personally would have stepped between him and the child as he was saying he would shut my kid up. At which point I would have explained to him, if he gets close enough to smell my child pass gas, he would have to deal with me. On the woman, my only question is this, okay, I can almost understand how he got the first slap off, but don't "hell hath no fury like a woman's scorn?" Shouldn't this mother have gone ape**** the second the first hand was on the two year old? On the child's side, according to my parents, at the age of two, I FULLY understood the phrase. "If you want something to cry about, I can give you something to cry about." At which point I knew it was time to be quiet. I cannot honestly validate my parents word, but I am not going to call them liars. Please don't get me wrong, I am not faulting this child at all, just stating what I have been told in my past. This whole situtation just personally urks me out too much. I mean when I was a kid, I got the living hell beat out of me by my neighbors, then my parents, and after I was able to sit again, I got the whole thing done over again by my other neighbors, and it was alright. I was raised to believe it takes a village to raise a child. The mother not having a backbone to defend a completley helpless 2 year old, well, I am going to keep my fat mouth shut on that one before I get my panties all bunched up. At which point, I just realized I am rambling, I do hope I did not anger anyone. Either way, my two cents on this topic is about as valuable as a mismatched sock with a huge hole where the toes go as I do not have any kids. :P |

I don't believe in striking children under any circumstances so it's a given that it would seem criminally wrong to me. I'm not one of those that pines for the "good old days" when children were subject to corporal punishment from their parents even, let alone a complete stranger.
If it bothers someone so very much to hear a child cry, yell, scream or indulge in a tantrum, walk away... It's a free country. My philosophy is that there's almost always a third alternative to any given situational problem. #1 Ignore the tantrum and mind your own business... (don't you have problems of your own to fret about?) #2 Complain to the parent in the far fetched hope that they can sooth the child. (I admit some parents tune it out and may be oblivious to the effect the crying/acting out of their kids but there could be a good reason beyond their immediate control) #3 Buy and use earplugs. Not to make this reply overly long but I'd like to share a story I read in "The 7 habits of highly effective people" It goes like this: A regular commuter takes the same bus to and from work everyday. He's used to enjoying his coffee and newspaper peacefully without major distractions and feels that it's his right to make his commute on public transportation without being interrupted by other passengers. One day the bus stops along the route and picks up a man and his 4 kids outside of a hospital. The man boards himself & the kids and sits down. The kids (as kids are want to do) begin playing, running up the isle and acting up a little. This activity begins to aggravate and upset some of the other passengers. The regular commuter begins to get really peeved and decides to confront the father of the unruly kids. He approaches the seemingly oblivious dad, who's not paying the desired attention and discipline to his kids, and states "excuse me sir but don't you even care that your kids are causing commotion and are highly dispruptive to our normally peaceful commute?" The dad, who seems dour and unaware, looks up and responds apologetically "Oh...I'm so sorry..." He lowers his voice to almost a whisper and goes on to explain " You see, we've just come from the hospital where their mom has passed away suddenly from an undiagnosed brain tumor and I'm trying to think of how I'm going to tell the kids that their mom won't be coming home again". The moral to the story is that sometimes the percieved slights we endure to live on this planet have very good justifications. jmo |
