Did you all know they are different?

Pathological liar - A pathological liar is usually defined as someone who lies incessantly to get their way and does so with little concern for others. Pathological lying is often viewed as coping mechanism developed in early childhood and it is often associated with some other type of mental health disorder. A pathological liar is often goal-oriented (i.e., lying is focused - it is done to get one's way). Pathological liars have little regard or respect for the rights and feelings of others. A pathological liar often comes across as being manipulative, cunning and self-centered.

Compulsive liar - A compulsive liar is defined as someone who lies out of habit. Lying is their normal and reflexive way of responding to questions. Compulsive liars bend the truth about everything, large and small. For a compulsive liar, telling the truth is very awkward and uncomfortable while lying feels right. Compulsive lying is usually thought to develop in early childhood, due to being placed in an environment where lying was necessary. For the most part, compulsive liars are not overly manipulative and cunning (see, Pathological Liar), rather they simply lie out of habit - an automatic response which is hard to break and one that takes its toll on a relationship.

I've read there are good and bad ways to cope with liars. How do you cope with liars?

I tell the truth and people still think I am lying even when I have the proof in their face.

That and Texas girls seem to like me a lot. Too bad I don't live there. I'd be hanging in the Yellow Rose Garden appreciating the roses!

You want prudish... come to LA. If you are not driving the right car, wearing the right shoes, sporting at least a Tag Heuer watch, and live in Santa Monica or some crap like that you ain't got a chance! At least in Texas if you got work ethic, motivation, and don't sit on your *** on all of your free time the girls there will give you the time of day construction worker or not. Here, if you are not of the trendy employment set you are hosed.

Count your blessings because the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

And to all you Texas gals out there...

drinker flowerforyou

Texas is not a state for sad babies! California is however.

as they talk to me I comtimplate what reason they are telling me this new story they are trying to pass off of as truth when really about half the time theres some kind of agenda to their newest pack of lies the other half of the time they lie for no reason at all.

That's b/c 'everything' is bigger in Texas... laugh

Not everything. And certainly not the deer.

When my folks moved down from Michigan, the guys were asking dad about hunting. He brought up the fact that he had released a youngster that had gotten himself tied up in barb wire a couple nights before on his way home from work. The guys freaked out when they realized he'd cut loose a full-grown buck instead of killing it. Dad wasn't real impressed with Texas's "full-size" and never got into hunting here.

once they have been caught lying .. i tend to distance myself from them..when you really need to know something they could not be trusted .. and that is a big thing with me..drinker

Freakin' absolutely! Unfortunately sometimes, like a bad penny...or gum on your shoe...they keep turning up...hoping for a reprieve. Then there are the "Righteous Liars"...insisting that it's everyone else who's got the problem...I ask them...is it the WHOLE world...or could it possibly be just YOU? *sigh* These types will never learn & should be avoided at all costs...

why, I once shot a 18 point buck that was six feet tall down by Pecos. The first two bullets bounced off of him and I had to chase him for three miles and wrassle him down by hand

I refuse to deal with a pathological liar. Manipulators are the worst. Compulsive liars are tolerable. Ever seen the movie Garden State? That kind of lying would be ok as long as they fess up to it afterwards.

The way to get them to fess up is to discuss rather than confront. For example,

Confront:

Did you...

I know that you...

Why are you lying to me about...

Discuss:

Something I discovered is upsetting me. I'm concerned (sad, hurt, frustrated) about... and I want to be able to talk with you about it...

Obviously the discussion option is better if you wish to continue the relationship.

If someone has a "need" to lie it has to make you wonder... I couldn't be in a relationship with a liar, there would never be any real trust... Trust is hard enough without adding lying into the mix....

Sometimes people feel the "need " to lie. To spare someone hurt or pain. Or just cause they don't want to hear the ********. I know. I've done it myself

But if you have a "compulsion" to lie then that's something that needs to be worked on

But if your like me. I would tell a little white one if it called for it cause I don't like to hurt someone ya know

And if it comes between you and another

Then it wasn't meant to be in the first place!
