Drunk driving accidents happen, that's a fact. My problem is that he waited so long to report it AND only reported it AFTER the body was found. No 'common man' would have been able to get away with that. Also, the speech he gave on TV was not even written by him. It was written by Kennedy flunkie Ted Sorensen. Sorensen later had regrets about writing said speech. be seeing you

Mary Joe Kopechne was someones baby girl.
Many here believe it's ok for some to get away with, at the least. manslaughter as long as they do "good things", in politics.

Let me ask those folks. If it were your child, would you still adore the criminal?

I'd like to see Cold Case Files pick this one up because of all the unanswered questions and DNA.

Are we still picking on a dead man because he cannot defend himself?

A normal person would be in jail for that...but not Ted! And he kept being elected afterward.

Another reason to lose faith in humanity.

I sure hope they remember all your mistakes and discretions on your funeral day. We wouldn't want your people to miss out on this joy either.

I think I'm (thankfully) missing the threads where people are adoring him. I doubt there's anyone here who isn't sickened and appalled, not only by what he did but that he got out of it, pretty much with nothing more than a slap on the wrist. My best friend's brother was killed by a drunk driver, a hit and run. He was caught. He received a fine, 30 days (suspended) in jail and 6 months of house probation. So, while I don't agree with either sentence, in my opinion, both the rich, politically connected man and the "ordinary" guy essentially got the same type of sentence. Which negates, in my mind anyway, that he may have used his influence to get out of it. Does it make either case right? HELL NO! Neither of the victims deserved what happened, and neither one of the perpetrators got anything close to what they deserve. But, whose fault is it that our justice system is screwed up? Our own. It's not Mr. Kennedy's. He took advantage, I'm sure, but so do thousands of other people every day. It's not right but right now, it is what it is.

I think where you've got your undies in a bunch is that, whether you like it or not, he did do some good things as well. Do the good things overshadow the bad? In my opinion, no. However, that doesn't stop me from being truthful in that he did do some good in the world, a lot of good, along with a lot of bad.

Would you want to be remembered ONLY for the worst thing you ever did in the lowest point of your life? No, of course not. Neither would I. Because there is no one on this earth who is only good or only bad, we are all human, fallible and a combination of both.

I'm not worried. I don't drink and drive nor am I a Senator in the greatest nation on the planet. So if I were to kill someone be rest assured that I WILL go to prison.

Why do you think I play with animals all the time? Kittens dont get high on cat nip and drive. Also kittens are damn cute. Try walking past a kitten and not petting it!

Figures, all the "good" Kennedy folks won't answer a simple question.
