rigorous exercise, daily & St john's wort Been on St Johns Wort for a few days & it seems to help a bit & doesn't seem to cause side effects like prescriptions do. Exercise is also very good advise. I once did see a psychiatrist and he put me on Paxil, an antidepressant. Being a bit cautious about it, I took half a pill. I felt fine for about an hour so I decided to drive home from where I was. I started getting dizzy & had to pull my car over to the side of the road. I began seeing stars and everything went white for a minute or so and my ears rang to the point where it was all I could hear. Once I came to from passing out, I drove home and spent the rest of the night on the toilet. Needless to say, the rest of the bottle went out with the trash. No more poison for me, thanks Everyone responds differently, but I know someone that took paxil and had a similar response, but does great on effexor and also on Zoloft. They do have their side effects, so if you do take them you have to balance those with the benefit. However I know that it probably saved this person's sanity, and perhaps life. That being said, i don't know whether you do or don't need medication. I certainly wouldn't start there. |

Make sure you get plenty of omegas in your diet. i found it helps keep mine in check when nothing situational triggers it. i have a chronic case where i should be on medication, but i loath that stuff. And anytime i stop getting omegas in my diet.. it slowly returns. Its a life a long friend for me. Just gotta toss it the right bait so it stays outside longer.

How do you pull yourself out of the pit? I need some advise. A)Learning accurate information about depression; it's various types, how it effects people in a variety of ways, various treatments, and good over all mental and physical health practices. B)Being pro active about prevention. If you are chronically over stressed by fatigue, toxic people, financial problems, poor environment, addictions, chronic health issues it will be hard to avoid depression. C) Consider a combination approach. Diet, exercise, social support, counseling, and medication. If you believe in a higher power prayer can be very useful. D) Don't accept solutions that don't work for you. Find resources to help you use the solutions that you want to use. If a counselor is not having a theraputic relationship ask to have another assigned. If you have an adverse reaction to one or more medications tell your doctor. Some work great for some and terrible for others. often a change in medication can have radically different results. Many side effects can be controlled. Don't let financial barriers stop you. There are subsidy programs for mental health care and medications. If a Doctor prescribes physical activity you can often qualify for reduced or waived fees for gyms, organizations, and support groups. YWCA, YMCA's, and Easter Seals have slideing scale fees. E) Exercise and Light have huge effect on Depression. If you are sensitive to sunburn you can still benifit from walking in a well lit environment such as Mall Walker's groups, indoor gardens, or sport facilities. Bright activity lights like Ott lights can help; especially for seasonal depression. F) Failing to concur depression at all times is not unusual. Billions of people have to struggle with depression and sometimes they have set backs and reoccurances. Don't give up, and learn from set backs. Often success is possible but it may take awhile. G) Give yourself a break. Depression can feel like a pit and getting help is as normal as getting help for any other struggle. H) Hope is a powerful weapon so never let anyone fool you into letting go of your hope for whatever you struggle with in your life and dream for your life. |

See a doctor if that doesn't help get on " happy pills" Still, if that doesn't help join a support group Pills only hide depression. It doesn't cure it. Depression is just a bad wave of electrons.. Constantly thinking positive.. Being more optimistic about things.. Surrounding yourself with positive influences.. Attempt to ignore slander and other offenses.. Find serenity in the beauty around you.. Might sound like a drugged up hippy or some shiz.. But it's basically science. Ppl pay millions each year for drugs to cure depression not hide it. Finding ways to change your enviroment helps more then you realize. Now if you expect this advice to work in an hour.. You are way to niave. Like an addiction... All it takes is time.. Learning to love yourself.. And stop being your biggest critic. That's my advice. Take it or leave it. |

The pit is your creation. heaven and hell are inward states. change the way u think.. u are a god.. This is so true. Sometimes though the bio-chemical problems seem to prevent one's self from getting out of depression. The help from a professional can be very beneficial. When you're down it seems like its always been gray, always going to be gray, and life will always suck. Well it doesn't. Bill Wilson co-founder of Alcoholic Anonymous suffered from severe depression even after being sober for many years. He felt that large doses of B vitamins were helpful, and so I take a B megavitimin daily and it seems to help. |

if you need wiring done you get an electrician if you need piping done you get a plumber if you need an appendectomy you get a doctor if you have depression you should get a professional not trying to sound mean but I dont know how and I doubt anyone else who isnt an experienced professional does either I'm sure I'm not the only one here on these forums who deals with bouts of depression. My question is directed to them. I am wanting to know what helps them out of the blues. I'm not interested in seeing a professional pill prescriber. So glad you won't go into the pill pushers!! Excellent idea. For remedy: Start each and every day giving thanks--throughout the day, give thanks for what you have and for the bad things you don't have. Do something everyday for another person, especially for no reason and for someone who doesn't deserve it. Volunteer. Be good to you and easy on yourself. Set goals, but not unrealistic ones. Don't beat yourself up if you don't live up to YOUR standards. We all judge ourselves, usually harshly. Laugh, have fun, laugh. The average child laughs 500 times in a day; the average adult (if lucky) 5 times.....LAUGH. |

Sad fact....
Drugs period is a sad fact. Some help.. Very few compared to how many actually exist. Most just bury the true illness never actually curing it. Mental disorders are all just that; mental. Don't resort to drugs. That's my piece. |
