As I understand it, each major tribe could be considered its own 'race',
as long as they were limiting their interbreeding with other tribes. But as far as the three -major- divisions, I think they would be Mongoloid - according to the idea that they came to America over the Bering strait. |

I dunno what I am. I think theres Indian blood in me because of the
black hair/eyes and red skin (which tans really nice btw), but I think theres Irish because my last name is from Ireland, and I have crazy curly hair. As a kid I would say I'm part of the Mohawk tribe because they were my fav when I learned about different ones in class. I can't confirm nor "bust" anything, so if I want to say I'm Indian, than I have every right too. Its what I believe |

It also brings us to the conclusion that race is not clearly definable and is not a good term to use in describing the variations among people. and is not a good term to use in describing the variations among people. so in a way hosea, you are right, in your belief// apolagys to you, as the task of defining race is highly subjective making it unscientific. |

According to genetic studies there are 4 main groups of race
and at least 16 subspecies, or races! All originating from one, but evolving seperate genetic characteristics, according to geographic locations and inter breeding. If you are to divide them into 3 it would be incorrect, because American Indian has a distinct difference in DNA than any of the other 3 mentioned before. Boring aye? We are continueing to evolve and hopefully we will all be considered one Race again as we were when we walked out of Africa so long ago. |

Felisha, there has long been a belief, possibly flawed, that the best
way to 'categorize' the many diverging branches of human genetics is to start with 'three branches'. Mongoloid is the term that is used for one of those branches, and according to that way of looking at things, it includes all people we normally think of as 'asian', and more. As it rightfully says in the text Trizar quotes - the whole idea is somewhat subjective and imperfect. Plus, some of those terms have negative connotations for some people. |

Fanta, yeah, Native Americans are quite different from Asians, yes.
Its all a matter of how people choose to categorize. If all native americans are indeed the descendants of people who came across the bering strait, I don't think it would be 'incorrect' to call them 'Mongoloid', as they would then be an offshoot of that branch. But like Trizar said, the whole business of categorizing is imperfect anyway. If anyone was going to challenge the 'three branch' idea, with a fourth branch, I thought it would be based on the indigenous people of Australia. I don't know where they would fit into that scheme. |

Only two sub-species(races) of the human species Male and Female.
Anything else is but a predudiced human overlay. |
