It would depend on the context the remark was made and the intent that he had saying it. I can't think it was a compliment but if he was infering that it was only looks that would hardly be that serious and insult because it is about inevitable that someone will be at least superficially "hotter" and he is chooseing to be with you. Maybe that is the point he is trying to make? Ok,, he was talking, and telling me about how he turned a woman who was "hot" down today, and how he only wanted me.. and i was getting tired of all his gloating he does about how often he gets hit on, and him sounding isecure, so i said " well i know how "fine" you think yo are, and I know how all these women are interested in you, but.. What sets me apart? And then HE was like, well I mean you arent the hottest girl in the world, ther ARE other women who are hotter than you, but I picked you, cos (various reasons).. Made me feel like does he want to guilt me? or justify his screwing round? or just try to make me feel small? or what? hes seeming more and more insecure, ad i can telll someones stroked his ego big time, and more than he thnks i do..

That he was being mean-spirited I feel that way.. i dont get it, I am very attentive, even he said so.. sounds douchey right? Im gonna mention it to him.. im like wtf? I wouldnt say that to someone, and i am very humble.

there is always someone hotter, why would someone even say that out loud Two reasons. To keep their partner " in line " with the thought that they OWE them something because they were " chosen ". Very, very insecure.
