What herbs can be planted next to each other or should not be planted next to each other?
My herbs have done really well this year except for the basil. Poor plant has a mint taste. Apparently even with the mint in a pot it managed to mix in and taint the basil. Thanks! |

There are sites that will tell you about companion planting.

I have never had a problem growing herbs next to one another. My only real advice is...put mint in it's own pot. It can uproot asphalt so it needs to be contained.

I have never had a problem growing herbs next to one another. My only real advice is...put mint in it's own pot. It can uproot asphalt so it needs to be contained. Likewise! Never a problem here. But, I tend to follow the rule of thumb in these neck of the woods..."if planted by seed, six inches apart...if rooted by pot...1' apart". Basil tasting like mint? Hmmmm...me thinks you were smoking some of your wacky "weed" when you taste tested. ![]() Sure, mint has a wicked root system and a mind of its own, but if you had the mint potted, that should NOT have been a problem, at all. ![]() I say, next season, just place that potted mint far FAR away from your other herbs, and you will be fine. ![]() Honestly? Herbs are the easiest garden growers...just ask all the potheads. ![]() ![]() |

My mint is in a pot. Dratted thing rooted through the drain holes and threw up side shoots. I think I need to plant it in a fully enclosed, self contained force field. Lol. I'm digging up some the herbs later in fall to put them in the greenhouse so I can tear up and re-do the herb and veggie garden for next spring.
