I'm a sucker for a "sick" plant like the ones that are on clearance. Love to stick them in the ground and tend to them. I generally take plants and put them out in their containers in the back to see where they will do/look best before I plant them.

Do you find yourself moving them around till you find the right place for them?

once the roots are established, it's great fun to move them around and play where the colour/height looks best.

it's so tempting to fill your garden immediately and buy the biggest pots so the flower beds look finished and complete; however, if you're using perennials, they come back bigger each year and eventually will take up too much room and you'll be halving them and either tossing or giving them away.

start with the smallest containers (you'll save a bunch of money too) and exchange cuttings with your neighbours.

It is fun being able to move pots around. And depending where your at and type of sun, houseplants do well outside as well. I use snake plants and spider plants interspersed with impatians, purple trailer plants to throw green foliage and height in. Then under one section there's a good shady spot and I use the houseplants to fill in. The 2 crepe myrtles and a maple tree provide heavy shade.
