Topic: Chafing | |

Ok, so I've been watching the Tour de France and I'm thinking to myself "How on earth do these guys ride their bicycles for days on end and not cause permanent damage to their private parts?"
I mean they ride in the rain, they ride in the heat...how DO you prevent chafing? I started feeling really uncomfortable just watching them. |

I used to watch cyclists train in the mountains of Georgia (Dahlonega)...they'd ride right past my house... I wanted to run out & just poof 'em with a powder puff...but alas, they were to quick for me...& left me in the dust...

Hmmm...that's the tricky part isn't it? I've been to Dahlonega by the way. It's real pretty up there.

That's why they wear those skin tight pants... It's similar to under armor in the respect that it helps to wick away moisture as well... Some that I have seen also have those gel seats that helps a bit... I would imagine that they do get chafing from time to time on long rides... but in saying that--their skin is probably acclimated to it and it doesn't happen as commonly as it would with someone that doesn't ride all the time trying to pull a 100k ride...

He wasn't right in his head to begin with, but yea...he's mended...busted up the bike pretty good, though...
Now on to chafing... I'm not quite sure how to prevent it...baby powder just turns to paste...UGH! But, if you end up with like prickly heat or something...believe it or not...anti-fungal foot cream works best on the itchy red places... |

And you're right about the powder...ugh. That's gotta be nasty. Slather the whole area with Vaseline maybe? But who knows? Maybe there's some kind of special product just for that kind of stuff on the market...shoot, I should really google that up. I'm curious now. lol |

I wear something in martial arts that is called a rash guard... It is basically the same material that is in under armor wear... That tight fitting elastic second skin feel.. It really does help quite a bit from getting mat burns, bloody cuts and all the while helps to keep you cool...
If you have that kind of underwear and those riding pants on it would serve as a double barrier to stop chafing.... Kind of like why people wear two pairs of socks playing racquet ball or tennis... IT cuts down on the friction and calluses... |
