Good GOSH! I am being over taken by them! I hurt my back two weeks ago and could not get my garbage out in a timely manner. That has now been done btw. But they are still here. I have sprayed, I have opened doors. But I just sat down to have a salad and they came from, I don't know where and were literally all around me, in my face, near my food. It was GROSS. ANY idea how to get rid of these things???

Wash any fruits and veggies you have around. They lay eggs on produce.

All of that is gone. Bananas that were out on the counter are gone. Kitchen cleaned properly. It's like they are in here some place and when I sat down to eat that smell brought them right to me. I wonder if I sat out something enclosed, to try to trap them inside it...if that would work???

Get a small bowl, put a piece of fruit in it and cover with saran wrap. Poke small holes in the top. It should catch them.

That is a good idea. Ick! Feels like a science project in my kitchen. laugh Some suggested a soda, Coke, MTN DEW, even wine in a glass they will go to.

Well, I had the same problem a couple weeks ago, because I forgot about a plum I had sitting out. So I used the method I described above and it worked well .

Right. Usually you see them, if a banana or an apple has gone bad. But since I got the garbage out of here finally, I haven't seen them. Got that salad out and it was like FOOOOOOODDDDDD!!!! And suddenly they were all around me. That is sooo gross to me. And IN my house.

Go get the raid bombs and bomb the house you only have to leave for about and hour if you have pets take them with you. Make sure you turn off ceiling fans and turn the ac up so the bombs have time to go off shshs they will kill any kind of bugs some you may not even know you have.

plug every sink in the house, fill them about 1/4 with water and dump in some bleach and crack a window. leave them like that overnight or longer if you can. the bugs will go away. it worked great for me last year.

bug repellant candles sort of work too but they make the house smell weird for quite a while. thankfully i learned that by someone else trying it.

Not to mention if I do "bomb" my kitchen, I will have to tear it apart to clean every single surface, every item and I'm not sure my back is up for that yet. I do have a gallon of bleach and someone mentioned white vinegar. Thanks for the suggestions.

Fruit flies hate honey. mix a bottle of honey with half a pint of vinegar and pour all around the base of house, car, lawn, etc. within seconds, all fruit flies within the premises will leave immediately, and be gone.bigsmile

Or set out a few bowls of it in the kitchen.

It might be tough with back problems but sometimes the drain in the bottom of older refrigerator with the drain trays will develope mold in the humidity of summer and breed fruit flys. Take it out, clean, and maybe the hidden breeding ground will go away.
