Topic: How Do You Talk to A Shy Person | |
---|---|
So isn't is always an awkward thing when either you are shy or you're trying to talk to a shy person for the first time and the sound of a pindrop can be heard for miles??? How does someone who is used to chatting up a storm cope with that or is it just bad chemistry?

The first hello is usually the ice breaker.

I don't try to do anything except be myself.
I probably would not have chemistry with someone who is resereved, shy, or conservative -- but frienship is still possible. Live and let live -- and everything works out for the best. |

Try humor People love to laugh It breaks the ice Humor and eating LOL works for me I agree with humor being an excellent icebreaker, but if it is a phone call eating is not going to work out very well.... If humor does not start the conversation rolling then I normally write them off. Sorry, but if you can't keep up your end of the conversation I will lose interest quickly. |

you know.. if i don't know you're shy i can scare the hell out of you easy because i'm very outgoing. extrovert and all.
but if i have a heads up... i'll say hi. or skip hi completely and make a short quiet comment on whatever the situation may be. try to make you smile because i know you won't be barrel laughing in public. let that pin drop. but keep the conversation rolling in spurts. too much scares a shy person. you gotta give them breathers. :) trust me. i know.. being all out in the open all the time has let me learn over the years how to deal with people who aren't like me. and you gotta respect the shyness. |

My approach is to think that shy be are afraid of being embarrassed, so I do a lot of friggin' embarrassing stuff so they feel more comfortable.

Ya know in all my years
I don't think I met a shy man Women. Plenty But I can't remember a shy man I think I'd feel like an idiot doing my roseann impression! |

I was once shy, I am now reserved... which is basically just shy until I'm in conversation. So for this, nobody really approaches me or talks to me unless I remark on something first. So lemme tell ya "hello" doesnt do much of anything. A question is the best... a question deters a person from thinking inward and helps to forget any personal thoughts, if even just for a moment. Give em something that takes long enough to listen to so there's room for noticing a smile, fashion, etc.

Yeah, that is a good one, but I do that regardless of who's around... probably why i'm not shy anymore. Like stairs! Ohhh I have mastered falling up the stairs, always a good laugh, no? |
