and we are still doing that. Hilary sure talks tough lately. Same with N Korea. why should we get into it as much as we are? there are countries closer to them that should do something IMO We oppressed the people of Iran in the 70s when we backed the dictator Shah. Then when they overthrew him,we gave Saddam Hussein biological and chemical weapons to use against the Iranians when he attacked them. Then after 9-11 we called Iran evil and terrorists and Bush repeatedly threatened them although the Iranians have never done anything to us.
that's pretty accurate. but if we hadn't have promoted Pahlavi (who was a legitimate heir to the Peacock Throne) then the Soviets would have taken over like they did in Poland and Checkoslovakia. Iran (at the time) was on the border of the Soviet Union and they desperately wanted it We should have done the right thing and stood for freedom back then. The Iranian have been treated very badly by us for several decades now.

Basically 911 happened and then George Bush started threatening to kill Iranians and calling them evil and terrorists, even though they had no part in 911 and mourned with us about all the loss of life. This scared the Iranian people because they thought we were going to attack them again with WMD (like we did in the 80s)except this time we would nuke them. So, the people of Iran elected a neocon republican named Achdemenijad. President Achdemenijad was a crappy leader basically the same as George Bush Jr. He has a big mouth, likes to talk tough, and threatens other countries, and screws everything up just like President Bush. The Iranian people are sick of him wrecking there foreign relations and economy and since George Bush is out of office in the U.S. now they feel safer and decided to elect a much more liberal president. The right wingers rigged the election so that Achdamenijad would win in a landslide and all the Iranian people know its a sham and so they are throwing the bums out just like we did the republicans here.

It's all about which leader will give us(our government) the most of what we want. |

yeah that was the way of it in the 50's, 60's, and 70's
same with Pinochet, and Noriega, and Somosa, and Ngo Diem Dinh there was so much fear of the Soviets that we supported leaders who were morally antithetic the American principles "he may be a bloody dictator. But he is OUR bloody dictator" (I think that was said about the Shah) |

I meant as far as why we ever got involved in their politics. |

Obama has a cold? or Hilary....someone keeps getting snot on me....maybe it's the swine flu?
I do find it ironic that Hilary is in charge of dealing with other countries and puffs her chest at giving stern warnings but didn't kick Bill to the curb |

But there isnt anything this administration can do Rose. No one in Iran is going to listen to American goverment. Not after all we have done to those people over the decades.

I think Obama is handling it exactly right and shouldn't let the rightists push him into being more aggressive
the worst thing we can do right now is to give the Ayatollah ammunition to portray this as an American driven subversion the Iranian people are gonna have to sort this out on their own. or not |
