Topic: Why I think vegetarians are right! | |
---|---|
While I am still a barbarian of sorts I eat the flesh of animals.
However it is written within the holy christian books at their very Judhaic foundations what god intended mankind to eat. Genesis 2-29 God is quoted as saying that he has given man herb bearing seed, and fruit of trees yeilding seeds. and says to them '... to you it shall be for meat'. He does not say 'I have given you the flesh of the fowl nor of the beast that walks upon the land. He says the fruit of trees yeilding seeds. I wonder if this means I have sinned against the word of god by eating the flesh of the beasts of the earth? |

Genesis 9:3
-------------------------------------------------------------- Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant. -------------------------------------------------------------- |

Good point spider. Yes god did change his law to accomodate the needs
of Noah and his get. However this was Gods insuring the survival of the survivors of the flood as he sent them out to repopulate the world. He had destroyed the plants therefore how else would they eat. It was a matter of reality at that time. Still does not change the fact that what he originally intended was for us to eat of the fruits of the tree and the herbs. God can change his law to meet the needs of mankind. I say he has done it again and absolved us of the need to go through Christ to obtain the presence of the father. |

I'm only vegetarian because I love animals (i HATE peta!!) and it's
better for my health...religion is confusing o.O |
Organized religion is the biggest sin. I love animals too, but I love
steaks more. |
I prefer vegitarian options because I just like it better. I do believe
in ethical treatment of animals, I'm a HUGE animal lover. However, that isn't my reason for being a vegitarian, and I agree with the guy that said organized religion is the biggest sin... I have nothing against anyone's religion, everyone is allowed their own feelings and views on the whole thing. I just don't understand how its possible for EVERY person in a church to feel the same way about it, and those who don't and argue about it get shunned away. |

Man cannot live upon bread alone(gods words) when the israelites where
crossing the desert he sent some type of birds for them to feed on. Also Jesus fed the crowd with fish |
It does not say bread it says the fruit of the trees and the green
herbs. I thought he sent down manna from heaven not birds to feed upon. And the thing of man not living upon bread alone is a reference to mankind living with more than physical food. We all need comfort and joy, sorrows and trials, spirit and goals. With only food and not these other things we will surely wither and pass away from the world of reality. |

"We all need comfort and joy, sorrows and trials, spirit and goals. With
only food and not these other things we will surely wither and pass away from the world of reality." Good stuff AB! |

hehe...i could almost survive on bread, since i love it so much.
i live an almost vegan lifestyle, and i've only been sick maybe three times in seventeen years. it is not in me to consume the life of another. |
you are correct on the manna and on the refernce i made to "man cannot
live on bread alone" but I do not believe God meant for us to be vegetarians...why would Jesus feed the crowd fish? I think there are paticular types of meat we should not eat but not all. |

AdventureBegins,
Exodus 16:12-13 ------------------------------------------------------------ "I have heard the grumblings of the sons of Israel; speak to them, saying, 'At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am the LORD your God.'" So it came about at evening that the quails came up and covered the camp, and in the morning there was a layer of dew around the camp. ------------------------------------------------------------ |

Would the crowd have been able to eat of the fruits of the trees and the
herbs of the field after haveing all their lives eaten of the flesh? Surely Jesus was smart enough to feed them in a manner their body could handle. When you first try a no meat diet you get a bit sick as you body flushes out the unclean from its systems. |

AdventureBegins,
A single meal of all bread wouldn't make anyone sick, especially when they hadn't eatten in three days. Jesus ate meat on several occations, Jesus was sinless, therefore eatting meat is not a sin. |
I think you are correct to a point Adventure..beef does not digest
properly, pork is an unclean meat and not good for you, seafood is a healthy meat for the body, fowl i'm not sure about...i think the webbed feet fowl we are not suppose to eat, such as ducks and geese,, if you watch a chicken eat you'll see it is unclean...but very tasty |
I never said eatin meat was a sin.
Nor have I claimed Jesus was sinless. I did state that to eat from the fruits of the tree and the herbs of the field was what God intended but as far as I know he has not yet commanded it. |
i intend that my children will grow up vegetarians, as well.
i do not command it. i intend that they shall read books, as well...but i don't force it down their throats. our children regularly do things that are beyond our intentions. |

Interesting topic. There seem to be some very basic laws of nature and
then there are things in nature that vary from person to person. If one wants to equate nature to God in any way, than it seems fair to say that it was indeed a wise decision that there should be so many choices given for our sustenance. I know many who can not digest milk, several who can not digest meat and there are numerous food allergies. It is good that we have been provided with and given so many choices. If it is edible and digestible, without harm to the individual, than it is good. |
