you let your guard down for once, and let someone get to know you? Would it turn out well or end horribly? Why do you think some of us have walls up in the first place? because we have let those walls down and been let down for it |

Well then you are absolutely right... If we meet a special person and we know they are special and we know we can live with everything about them and still don't let them in, then we are far to broken and all the kings men won't put us together again... Yep...I like that. |

How do we overcome that fear? No pun intended fearandloathing! |

Agree there Montana! For sure. When/if a worthy partner presents themselves, we can go with it or not, our choice. I always asked myself this question. I have two choices. Be alone the rest of my life (who expects to be widowed at age 35) because of what I Might have to go thru again, OR OR, take a chance on giving and receiving love. I choose the latter. GREAT for you, sweets! You deserve it. And...no matter what, it's worth it to try. |

And, I will add that this wasn't always the case. I went a long long time being DONE DONE DONE and not making any attempt at all to have a relationship. So, I became the class clown. |

I think that if you have absolutely no expectations from the relationship and are able to simply enjoy it for what it is, for today only, it becomes much easier to stop worrying about what might happen tomorrow. and, if i can add: that, if the relationship isn't a forever one, that doesn't necessarily mean that it wasn't a success, that it didn't provide you with what you needed at that particular moment in your life. knowing you didn't fail at something also lessens the worrying about doing just that. |

It's sort of a give-and-take. It's a given that everybody is eventually gonna die. Conversely, NOT everybody is gonna break your heart.
It's a balancing act, and it all depends on how much weight you want to put on whichever end you choose. |

It's a balancing act, and it all depends on how much weight you want to put on whichever end you choose. Exactly. I already know the ending. But I'm willing to have a beginning and a middle again, regardless of having that knowledge. I'd said for a long time that if I were meant to have someone else, UPS would just need to deliver him to my door. |

I have walls and a moat and a dragon. There are other defenses, but those are a surprise. These are in place because I've decided that seclusion and privacy works better for me than having my heart broken. |

I agree, Mitch. Just look at where I WAS, compared to where I am NOW. |

However, as time goes by I find the want and need for a partner lessening. |
