As everyone knows in Philly, this means, Did you eat? No did you? There are many dialects in Pa: do you rhyme water with butter? Is it a Creek or a Crick? Do you go Donna Shore?
How do you guys talk? |

cenner ciddy souf street pitcher = picture I prefer to watch the Eagles play, but I know lots who root for the iggles It's always a creek. I come from the Philly 'burbs. My natural speech comes from Philly, but I mix in a bit of Pennsylvania Dutch. If I'm on a country music kick, I shift below the mason dixon line. |

It will always be a hoagie to me. Anything else is hardly even a sandwich.
And we always go down to the shore. Whether it's Jersey, Delaware, or Maryland. Any one would be considered an exotic vacation. Jersey is a whole 'nother country anyway. How about this: A can of Pepsi. Can I please go to the bathroom. The pronunciation of can depends on its use. In the second case, I say 'Ken'. Actually (Ackshly), I wouldn't be caught dead saying that, 'may I' was beaten into me from an early age. Linguistics is awesome. And yeah, Pennsylvania does have it's share of differences even within our own borders. |

Hubby was born and raied in philly. So kids grew up with philly talk.( action news was on everynight from philly) Then the mass of NOrth jersey hits south jersey. My poor kids. They moved North fro college. They had to learn to talk all over again. Then I moved to TN for four years, Don't get me upset. It sounds like a southern yankee exploding with a twisted accent. LOL.............. OH- picnic.....pickanick. I was teased about this for many years Oh- and mine. I say myan. |

And people from Pittsburgh say tahl instead of tool Epic fail. I have lived around Pittsburgh my whole live and never heard anyone from Pittsburgh say Tahl. We all say tool. I have heard jaggerbush, jimmies, red up, dahntahn, crick, gum band, stillers, but never tahl. It was in a review of good old Billy Mays, where they pointed out that is how he pronounced it due to being from Pittsburgh. |

Tahl sounds more like it would be towel to me, then tool, but either way, I still never heard anyone say tahl. |

When I first moved to Tenn. someone asked me how I promounce balogna. I said baloney, unless you're in Pittsburgh, then it's pronounced jumbo! Then I had to explain that too. |
