I'm not laughing at you. Just what I see here in general. I see what you are saying. Internet forums are not anymore secure than IM in terms of people not being who they say they are BUT it's only meant as catalyst to meeting someone. If I meet someone here then I want to meet in real life. If he only wants to IM then red flags are all over the place.
I defer to the fact that maybe you don't mean IM for the purpose of meeting and dating. If you are just socializing then more power to you!
