Topic: Smokers. How Patriotic are you? | |
---|---|
This new Tax has some folks a little anxious on how they can maintain their habit and still pay their bills.
Now, the Patriotic thing to do would be, suck it up and pay the Tax. Gov. says it's a necessary evil. If you had a chance to legally buy cig. and avoid the tax, would you do it? Would you consider avoiding the Tax as un-Patriotic? What's your view? |

Actually, if you go to the reservation, you can buy smokes without paying the tax.
Here's whats funny, this new tax is supposed to fund S-chip. However, it's causing smokers to run for the nicorette in mass numbers. The same people that were for funding S-chip by taking advantage of a smokers addiction, are the ones saying if you don't like it, then quit. Okay, so lets follow that logic. Exactly where do you intend to get the funds for S-Chip when another couple million smokers throw up their hands, because Government has regulated yet another personal choice, using kids to get support for it? Avoiding a tax isn't Unpatriotic, but it is illegal. Our founding fathers destroyed private property to avoid out of control government taxation. |

i'm sure several people will do what they have/want to do....even black market smokes I'm talking about Legally buying them. I have folks checking on the Border to see if it's legal to ship them interstate with the Texas Stamp. All legal and above board. |

I work in the health field and see the effects of cigarette smoking everyday. So I'm thinking of lives here.. not jobs. |

More people will get them cheaper by whatever means neccesary and more people will quit. either way, less taxes for the pols, So they''ll just tax something else.
Big Macs are bad for you, so why not pay an extra $1? Radio's that play over a certain decibal level are bad for your ears. $45 tax Beer? that's right... It's all about the dollars. No more tobacco tax, They'll go after something else that people find hard to give up. Once they get all those "monkeys" off our backs, They'll just tax us for our oxygen consumption. It aint about cigarettes. |

I am a staunch anti-smoker, but no way I would expect anyone to voluntarily pay a tax when there's another legal option.
