Real spies are the guys that you never notice. Sitting in a cafe' watching the guard change and traffic at an air force base. Or at a workstation gathering electint. NGOs in an embassy. Intercepting radio/telex traffic remotely.

In military intelligence, very few are the "special forces" guys doing eyes-on in Tora Bora, although the CIA, DIA, DSS and virtually all the others recruit heavily from them. Thats long range reconnissance, not spying. Its the guy in seat 4 of the E8 JSTARS, the ASTOR R1s, the Predators gathering electronic, photographic, radar line scans 20,000 ft. up that goes home every night, not Rambo or James Bond, that are spies.

Then you have the big ones...AT&T, Sprint, etc that just automatically gather, sort and collate raw electronic intelligence for digestion by any number of "intelligent" systems.
