It is if you are going to marry your mother Blame Shakespeare, not me! I don't remember Shakespeare writing that (not in Hamlet anyway). Oedipus did that. Lol, he was one crazy motherf**ker. Like Jess said, WHAT THE F?! Oedipus did do his mother as well though, after blinding himself, or something like that. |

Jess and Dan are both right.
Jess referred to the phrase "to be, or not to be" comes from William Shakespeare's Hamlet. Dan made a sexual connotation to marry his 'mother' which brings to light the story of Oedipus -- who was a mythical Greek King and fulfilled a prophecy that said he would kill his father and marry his mother. After killing his father, he was told that he had married his real mother and fathered her children. He was adopted and didn't know his true heritage. His natural mother hung herself after hearing this news, and when Oedipus found her body, he took the dress pins from her dress and stabbed his out so he could never see the light of day again. He did not intentially sleep with his mother because he didn't know he was adopted but Freud developed his theory from that myth. Borne from that is Freud's Oedipus complex; a psychoanalytic theory based unconscious ideas to have sex with a parent of the opposite and then eliminate the other parent of the same sex. That's when I made the 'punny' about Freud under Dan's post and things got all out of wack! See? You guys were both right -- just a slightly off each other's path. |

Alas, I am but too ignorant a man
To claim, to know the Bards tale, let alone understand the depth and meaning therin lie. Would I to speak, it would tell only my foolishness, but nay the wanting in my soul for understanding. The wanting in my soul for more. Shall I lay quiet in my tomb? Wrapped in my shroud of shame? Or should I be fairly bursting with claim, I know not, I know not, teach me, only to know that I'am so ignorant a fool. Thus I waste my mind, on such pointless drivel.....alas |
