Ok, who has it?

I'm running it right now as I'm typing it. It's definetely faster than Vista and less bloated. Not to mention, I got the ultimate version and I think this won't expire until August or Sept this year.

Neither I hear the continuous chirping of my hard drive with this one.

Yeah, it's a lot like Vista, but remember it's in the early stages, but since I tested Vista also, before it came out, I see tremendous improvements, even if this is only a beta. The vista prototype was horrendous compared to this one.

If you wanna see some pictures, here we go>

(Don't trust the images you'd google, if you don't know what it looks like, I'm gonna show you the real pics, there are a lot of fake ones floating around the web )

Windows 7 *(Beta, or also known Vienna)

Yes it is. Essentially it is a stripped down Vista on a diet. This should have been Vista if you ask me. I pre-tested all latest 3, starting with XP (Luna) and then Vista (codenamed Longhorn) and now Vienna (7)

I was completely disappointed with Vista pre-releases (RC1,RC2) because they added "too much fat" to it... I kept complaining of course, I'm just a lonely voice in the great masses..ohwell

Now they will be in a tough position, since Linux is gaining on them big time and the other group who likes it fast and thin staying with WindowsXP.

In all ways, it's better than Vista. Now Do I like it compared to Vista, yes. Do I like it compared to other OS-es, well that's another topic.

If you say so.

I guess it just depends on the person and which OS they like best.

i use W7 too. at the begining i hated it as i did with Vista (which i still don't like) too. now i love it even more than XP but to get here i had to do some hacks to it :)
and for those speaking about Linux here... please stay on topic. Linux has his major disadvantages too. more than windows have and i'm only talking about functionality and not security. photoshop is way better than gimp :)

You're the reason Linux has a bad name and is perceived as too technical for the average user.

Linux is not for pros, Linux is for everyone.
If the community would stop bad mouthing Windows and actually help people learn and use Linux it would be a much more popular OS.

Also, everyone knows OpenBSD is for pros.

Windows is unstable enough without doing the beta, thanks.

Actually this is pretty stable.. more stable than Vista in full edition.
The problem is the drivers and many things just won't run on it..that's why it's beta.

Does anyone else notice the irony of saying Windows is pretty stable?

I will say Windows 7 may look ok but, a few issues with some online games and some programs. Still sorry to say it to all the Windows users out there. If you want flash and eye candy get away from Windows. Linux is way more stable, you can do so much more and for eye candy.... nothing beats it. Linux and Compiz Fusion rocks. Never mind if you grab yourself Emerald and mod away.

I have Windows 7 on my Desktop. I wanted to familiarize myself with it. I usually have a dual boot with Linux. My preferred distro has been Mandriva but I wasn't satisfied with version 10 so wanted to try PCLOS 2009, but it refuses to install on my desktop. I was using Vista until I could settle on my next Linux distro, but it died, so I killed it put the 7 beta on in its place. I liked it at first, but over the last few days have been plagued by frequent bsod's, software and hardware incompatibilities, and the annoyances of the mechanics of it's eye candy.

Don't expect it to work fully with everything.

For Linux, I recommend either Ubuntu or OpenSuse (for both, I like to use the Gnome desktop instead of KDE, I find KDE kinda buggy and I don't like it )

I installed it on a second pc. It seems to work fine, and a hell of a lot better than standard vista... And so far everyone I talk to wishes this was released instead of vista. The only problem I have is that my brother complains it can't play his favorite game ohwell

My take on Windows 7 is this...

... every single last operating system Microsoft has issued since day one was full of bugs and glitches. People call in and b.itch, they compile the b.itches, and re-write code... issue the b.itches as "Windows Updates"...

Let's all re-call Windows ME... complete junk...

Vista is basically another ME... total junk

Windows 7 is the compilation of Vista fixes all compiled as a new operating system...

Soon to be in a store near you

adn Bill gates gets richer and richer by selling more buggy, hole-filled junk

Welcome to capitalism

************

and as far as Linux... if they would off more applications for Linux that aren't tinker-toy wanna-bes (Like OpenOffice... yikes, what junk)... then maybe the world would take them more serious...

But basically, you practically need to be a code-writing programmer to get any enjoyment out of Linux...

Pros?... hmmm... total geekoids more like it... thus, the minority in numbers who run Linux, and the majority of bozos who are convinced Windows is the best choice... and don't get me started on the over-priced Apple computers... no fugging way am I paying 5 times the money for something I can build with my own two hands and run on Windows for dirt cheap... it better blow me if I'm paying that much money... for real...

Built my current PC for just under $1,000 in hand-picked parts...

... ran the exact same criteria through the DELL Computers web site... $3,500...

... ran the same exact criteria throught the Apple page... $5,200...

blow me Apple.... hahahaha

and I got like 75 different distros of Linux... zero apps for any of them... unless you count OpenOffice... which $ucks donkey weeners...

until somebody in the OpenSource community starts offering the bah-zillion of apps available for Windows, nobody but geeks are going to use it...

And as far as Windows 7...

I'm not ever going to install Vista on anything I own... and it'll be until at least Service Pack 2 of Windows 7 before I give it any consideration... it usually takes Microsoft about that long to get their collective operating system $hiot together...

Windows XP wasn't broke, why fix it... except that hardware now exists for 64-bit technology... still running Windows XP x64 here and I have no intention of changing in the next year or two...

They all suck, really...

-- Windows is full of bugs and hacker-holes
-- Everything Apple puts out is way-y-y-y-y-y-y-y too over-priced, and there is no software for it compared to Windows when you do buy one
-- Linux is primarily for geeks...

"American Quality"... remember that old has-been phrase? It doesn't exist anymore... Bill Gates made sure and screwed that up completely with his happy little bug-filled American-made products...

Had Microsoft been released, full of bugs, shortly after World War II when America was still king of the world and could do no wrong, the bug-$hit would have had to go...

Now, people will buy anytthing... or spend way to much money just for bragging rights... or need to be a geek and feel special as if no one else can be a geek (sort of like being ultra-rich and buying yachts and limosines, but different)

Just give me a shack on the side of a mountain and a few bear skins... I think I would be happier
