there were atleast 5 inmates in tent city hospitalized last summer for heat stroke , and thats just what i remember from the news . so is it only alright untill someone dies ? did I say that???? no...but then again i didn't serve in the military so i don't have a voice right? those inmates were taken care of. and yes...they need to do SOMETHING about it....but just living in a tent with brown bag meals aren't a problem for me. if it is a danger...then yes....do something if it's just they are made to work and not "comfortable" then no maybe if the US was harder on the guilty...then it might deter others who takes care of the oil riggers and farmers and ranchers etc? who brought up anything about th freaking millitary ? you have all the voice you want . do i think your right no . but that is my opinion . i used to feel the same way you do about tent city . they did the crime they can do the time . untill i found out what tent city is realy like . the gaurds have been known to ignore people who are overheated because they think they are fakeing it . people have gotten sick from there bologna sandwhiches being in the heat . iv worked in the oilfields . it's not that bad . at the end of the day they go home to an airconditioned house . these guys are in the heat 24 -7 you cant compare the two . as i said my brother is sitting in tent city because he got laid off and couldnt pay his child support but he desrves it right . yeah great attitude . That's just awful that that's happening to your brother. ![]() |

i truly don't think that they should keep people that haven't been convicted honestly in a tent city. that blows the "treated innocent until proven guilty" right out of the water. but i've been seeing that so many people are for torturing others on some level or another. especially the ones that haven't experienced it yet. Citizens of this country are innocent until proven guilty. everyone is supposed to be innocent untill proven guilt not just citizens |

there were atleast 5 inmates in tent city hospitalized last summer for heat stroke , and thats just what i remember from the news . so is it only alright untill someone dies ? And why have they not been deported? not deported ? there arent just people who are here illegaly there . Now, I thought the topic was about Illegal Immigrants. All suspected criminals are jailed or bailed, or releast on their own recognizance til a trial date is set. Duh! If your brother can't make or is refused bail, in jail he sits. Back to the Illegal Immigrants. Sheriff storing illegal immigrants in desert tent compound At 1:00 PM PST today, a Phoenix, Arizona county sheriff will order 220 illegal aliens to be chained together and marched from a county jail to their new home: an array of canvas tents spread in the middle of the desert surrounded by an electric fence. Known as Tent City, the facility is the brainchild of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, opened in August of 1993. Since then, the compound has been what the Sheriff's office describes as a safe and cost effective way of housing inmates, combating overcrowding in the county jail, and providing easier access for foreign governments to visits to the inmates. In a press statement, the Sheriff's office called the move into Tent City "a financially responsible alternative to taxpayers already over burdened by the economic drain imposed by a growing number of illegal aliens on social services like education and healthcare." The march from the Durango Jail complex to Tent City is expected to take an hour. Once at the destination, Sheriff Arpaio has arranged for them to be instructed in American immigration laws, "as a way to help them understand that the violation of these laws has serious consequences not only to them but to society as a whole." Those found violating the rules of Tent City may be locked up in shackles as part of a chain gang charged with cleaning debris from nearby areas impacted by illegal immigration activities. The illegal aliens, who the Sheriff's office says "have all involved in an assortment of crimes not just being found to be illegal aliens," will reside here until they are deported to their home countries. Regardless of whether you agree with his non-conventional ways, Sheriff Arpaio has built up a reputation for tough but economical managing of the illegal immigrant population in his county. Over the years, he has found a myriad of ways to cut costs and save taxpayer dollars. "We took away coffee, that saved $150,000 a year. Why do you need coffee in jail?" asked Arpaio. "Switched to bologna sandwiches, that saved half a million dollars a year." |
