Since posting about the Muslim who beheaded his wife, I've been studying what Sharia Law means.
From what I have learned, so far, it's of great benefit to the male population.
It does offer strict guidelines on alcohol consumption, drug use, and sexual behaviors.
It also has strict and straightforward resolution on punishments for different crimes. Theft=Cut off the abusive hand. Adultery=Stoning or Beheading. If a woman of marrying age is found out not a virgin, she is returned to her family and sometimes killed. Stating, noone will marry her and she shamed the family.
Now, if you say those things don't happen in society today, I can offer up news stories from those areas where it's happening.
I fear for Britain because they have adopted a part of Islamic Sharia Law. A foot in the door and the body is soon to follow.
What is your understanding and is Islamic Sharia Law compatible with Western Democracy?

My take is no it is not.

But you know there are some regular posters who want their religious views enforced by statute on others.

I guess you all might see the implications of mixing religious viewpoints into the rule of law.

Another concern is, a large percentage of Muslims in Canada, just north of the US, want Islamic Sharia Law added, read why.

From Wednesday's Globe and Mail

January 28, 2009 at 12:00 AM EST

53 per cent of Muslims think sharia law should be recognized as a legal basis for settling family disputes.

55 per cent of Muslim women and 59 per cent of Muslims aged 18 to 29 indicated their preference for sharia law.
