and about PETA say what u will, but they do some good work....see their Mcd's video about how chickens bones r broken, held upside down and bled, then scalded alive....and u eat their meat.

and that is what should be done to all those that shoot chimps.
yes, they could have darted him, but they chose not. WHY...

I do not agree with PETA's tactics in any way shape or form, and do not align myself with them.

i hope PETA gets ahold of them big time.

Oh yeah. Cuz everyone knows that the PETA folks are the most reasonable, mentally stable folks out there. They are the ONLY ones that can handle a situation like this.

* disclaimer *

Please note the dripping sarcasm present in this post.

I was vegan for 4 years and I still have a strong distaste for Peta.

I am always amused by those that jump up and down about the " religious fanatics " who later mention that they are PETA members.

Not saying that anyone here has been guilty of that.

I just find that kind of thing exceptionally hypocritical. Especially with some of the " reasonable " things that PETA has been guilty of causing.

i say good shooting. you fruitcakes are so caught up in what ifs and your utopia.
how about dealing with the real world.

How about quitting the invasion of natural resources where these animals live and have to be raised in jails, due to human consumption of all natural resources and destruction of the natural habitat homes??? Killing the earth kills us all!!! How about you wakie one day to less and less oxygen to breath because of it??? Or better yet no one wakes because of it???

Tell us how you really feel, my dear? flowers

Wow. I'm not sure I can reply to such a stunningly well put together verbal response. lol

I am not saying that PETA has done nothing good.

I am only saying that the bizarre things and militant attitude they portray goes a long way toward negating any of the good things they do.

Although not all chimps after a certain age react like this, but most do get more aggressive. There sheer muscle strength makes them dangerious. And to be able to say " shoot it with a tranquilizer dart" is ludicrous. When you have an animal attacking in such a rage, you would have to have it ready and have a clear shot. And not into a car with somebody fighting for their life. The woman should not have had it roaming free, that is the bottom line. all animals have certain instincts, no matter what species. Including man!

I am not saying they haven't done good work, but some of the fanatical ones cut off their nose to spite their face so to speak, and give PETA a bad rep and I would say it is about half fanatical. The other half actually do try maintaining good public relations. My momma always said, "you catch more flies with honey, than ya do vinegar!!"

Why does this feel like a made up screen name in order to fight a split personality battle or does it just seem that way to me??

It is a problem for chimps who change into adolescents to develop frustration, anger, and physical aggression....

This is why they cannot be kept as "pets".

I think the woman should have been shot.

This seems reasonable; however, shooting an outraged, 200 pound chimp also seems reasonable, given the situation. The chimp was FAR more powerful than the officer who shot him, and that officer had every reason to be in fear of his life. This is not the first time that a chimp has behaved in this manner. Chimps are very smart, but they are NOT domesticated animals by any stretch of the imagination. The entire situation was caused by the failure of the owner to control the chimp. I'd say that the death should result in a charge of negligent homicide against the woman who owned him.

Plausible.

If he would have joined today as opposed to the 5th it would be even more likely.

it sounds like it may have reacted to the zanax
but there are animals that do 'snap'
rottweilers, dobermans and boxers are 3 dogs i would never own.
i've never heard of a monkey going ape sh1t (pun intended) but i guess it could happen.

I would have to disagree about the dogs. Any creature can "snap", look at humans.

flowerforyou

you disagree about the dogs? in what way?

That those specific breeds shouldnt be let into your home.

i've just seen from experience and some research that these specific breeds have skull issues. their brains grow bigger than their skulls allow and it causes them to snap in and out. they don't even realize they attack.

Understood. I wasnt aware of the skull issue, thanks for the info. happy

When I was a kid, I had a friend with a chimpanzee named Brother Louie. Got him when he was a baby. He was so cute. 20 years later this thing is a dangerous animal that makes Pit Bulls look like Yorkies. 2 inch long teeth, strong enough to rip your arms out of thier sockets and angry enough to do it.

He lived in the house but in the end my friend had to line his room with steel plate and over the door, that heavy duty grating that you normally walk on. Even with all that, he would run at it full speed and hit that so hard when you walked by that it was bowed out to the point of breaking.

He ended up having to shoot him through the door with a .300 magnum because he was so dangerous to everyone, including him.

They get old and become very dangerous. If I see a chimp running free on my street, I'd shoot him on sight. They have no business around people.

Id be pretty angry if I had to live with a different family of animals and be locked in a room all day.

I have to disagree with you. I've been around a long time and I've never heard of a boxer even biting somebody much less 'snapping'. I've owned several and my son has three right now. Every Boxer I've ever seen are some of the most loving dogs I've ever seen.

I would too. Actually, I have. Not animals, just close to it. Fortunately not for life. So I'm not quite as bad. think
But once the damage is done, theres no nice, pretty way to fix it. If you have a dangerous wild animal running doen the street I see only one solution. PETA can't help them except by putting them in another cage somewhere and probably euthanizing it anyway.
People should not be allowed to take these from the wild...period.
