Topic: Clenching your teeth | |
---|---|
I suffer from anxiety attacks in my sleep (I know it's odd since I that is the time I'm supposed to be most relaxed) and I keep clenching my teeth together making my jaw and body completely rigid. Once I've clenched down hard enough, I wake myself up and I can relax. But it keeps causing me to have pain in my jaw and sometimes severe toothaches. I'm not grinding my teeth so I don't know what I can do to prevent this.
Anyone got any ideas? |

This happened to my brother, the dentist told him to use a mouth piece like for football. It protects your teeth until they can find the cause of your anxiety

It protects your teeth until they can find the cause of your anxiety Well, I know the cause of the anxiety, it's just that I had to be taken off of the medication cold-turkey when I found out I was pregnant. Does the mouth piece prevent you from biting down all the way? |

it's called bruxism
try the mouth piece. you soak it in hot water to soften it and then bite down on it and it forms to your teeth and bite it will keep you from clenching so bad that it disturbs your sleep |

Okay, so the mouth piece is it. Glad you told me about putting it in the water Quiet. I would have just stuck it straight in, lol.
I'm going to do some research on "bruxism". Maybe they'll have some tips as well. |

I do it too, you can damage your teeth doing it. Never disturbs my sleep. My dentist made a mouth guard for me, but I seemed to lose it somewhere in the night.

I haven't done any severe damage yet, but I can tell it's taking a tole on my teeth. I've yet to have a night where I don't wake up with my body stiff as a board and my jaw clenched shut for dear life. I'm going to try an OTC mouth guard and see if that helps, otherwise I will ask my dentist about making one for me. |

Be advised, the one the dentist makes is NOT CHEAP.

Morning all,
I have tmj and the pharmacy has a cheeper mouth piece that you can try. The ones the dentist made me 2 times I broke. It does not prevent you from clenching, but, makes it so that your jaw is not as sore in the morning. |
